Hello, recently I have bought a $9 "PM Laser 301" from ebay. The label states that it is <1000mW and class II and wavelength is 532nm +-10.

And I put a ICR 18650 samsung battery which was charged at 4.2v.

But the problem(s) are these,

*It hurts and burns my skin(upper side of my hand) in 2 seconds without focus and instant hurt with focus.
*It melts plastic and creates hole instantly with focus. And 2~ seconds without focus.
*It lits matches almost instantly with focused and 2 seconds without focus.
*I can not look into the dot as it f*cks my vision like a sun with or without focus. Even if the surface is matte. Surprisingly, It does not matter for this cheap but powerful laser :D whether the surface is black or not.
*The beam can be seen in day light if you pay a bit attention, but in night it becomes like a real 50 mW green laser(for beam).
*It burns (not like a match) navy blue fabric in 2.5~ seconds without focus and instant with focus.

How can this cheap laser does these?

I think most of the things I have stated are related to heat. Which corresponds to IR in my opinion for these cheap Chinese lasers. So I think this emits 3~ mW green laser and 80~ mW IR. What do you think?

It seems like this will get broken in 2-3 weeks. However, I would be glad by seeing your opinions on this.

Any kind of comment will be appreciated. :thanks:

I could be wrong but just imagine if you put an IR filter on in. It would probably take away all the power.

Yes but the wrong part is how can they put that kind of diode into $9 pointer?

You probably know the military style. Only the case and protective keys should be at least $5. And $4 for diode that emits 50mW IR and 5 mW green? I do not think so.

There is no filter in yours. If there were a filter it would be much less power. Do you understand how 532nm lasers work?

I understand what you say(It is exact thing) and working process of 532nm lasers. But my point was not that.

What I'm saying is a lot of eBay lasers like that have been tested to output like 60mw of IR and 10mw of green.

USA bro, he is trying to say, how can a laser with so many components be sold for just 9 dollars.

$9 Yea it really makes you wonder, because the person selling them has to make a profit too so he probably gets them for maybe $5 and "Drop Ships" it to you.

Its china so i guess mass production/low quality/bulk sales are the main factors to get the price low

You can get a green module that does that for 4-5 bucks from fasttech, Its luck of the draw really, because the quality control is terrible so sometimes a green module can put out 150mW of 532 and little IR when others may output 30mW of 532 and double that of IR.

Sellers also buy in massive quantities and get a discount from the manufacturer, and may or may not pass on the discount to you.

I bought this laser cheap out of curiocity. Best I can say about it is that it works. It's fairly bright and it will burn the common stuff i.e. matches, dark objects, etc. As others pointed out probably a fair percentage of that power is infrared so I would be careful using it. Over all quality is,,,typical for cheap Chinese lasers. Not bad not good. The momentary push button switch on the side stinks and sometimes when you press it the laser won't go on. I can see that as a major point of failure if th laser is used often. It is also somewhat unstable. If you want a cheap green laser that will burn stuff its okay. If you want quality, stability, etc. then pass it up and but something of quality. Always wear saferty goggles of course.

This isn't really what you're talking
about, but just some food for thought about
these green DPSS lasers.

When I first got my DX "true" 5mW, it would
peak at around 63mW. After the first pot
adjustment, the power went up to around
75mW with a noticeable increase in
brightness. After the second adjustment,
the power actually went down to 50-60mW,
but the increase in visible light output is
amazing. The more IR going into the KTP,
the more efficient it becomes. So though
the total light output has gone down, the
visible output has gone way up.

It's really down to luck as there's barely any quality control on these. Mine came in overspec but died after only minutes of operation (on 15s intervals).
