Running at 35A no LBO heating and not optomized (~500mW):

Slight Beam shot in broad daylight (~200mW):

When I finally get around to heating up the LBO, I will post some pictures of the beam at 8W.

*drool*.. can't wait to see the 8W pics. 35A is a lot to give for 500mW..

You have to remember, LBO cannot do critical or noncritical phase matching at room temperature. This crystal is cut at such an angle that it requires heating to achieve optimal efficiency. 500mW at room temperature is actually way more then is expected. My SP Millennia is only putting out 800uW at 13W of pump when the LBO is not heated. It remains there until it gets within ~1-2 degrees of ideal, then it begins to become more efficient.

Well duh.. shit man that's first-grade stuff..

But seriously, I know LBO has only a very small window of max efficiency. I've seen systems that wouldn't double at all unless the LBO was just right.. sometimes it's a pain getting it there, but tuning is always a fun time if you truly love lasers, right?

Yep, tuning is fun, but not when you have no idea where the ideal point is, not even a reference, and have to heat/cool the crystal very slowly (30 minutes on the Millennia).
