Yes, it would but you will need a very
big heatsink probably a copper one.

Would this be a starting point for building an 800 mW green?

If you're interested in one of those, I would be up for ordering one also. From CNI, it can be a huge benefit price-wise to go in with one or two other people.

Price is the big unknown here though, and I fear we'd be looking at close to $1k (which I wouldn't be able to do).

If anyone can get a price quote I have a largely price dependent interest.

Yeah, I could do a grand but I'm pretty sure my wife would divorce me, so I'd probably better not go that high. I'd rather spread my funds to 1w 445, xxx mW 532 and xxx mW red.

EDIT: I was just looking at beam specs and it looks like this module has an impressive 0.2 mm beam diameter, but a deal killing? 15mrad divergence. Am I reading that correctly?

Probably. Expand the beam to 2mm and you have 1.5mrad divergence, not that good bit still much better than diodes.

Maybe I am confused then, is that ok? Are you saying they are basically the same thing? I need to re-read my trig or geometry texts I guess.
