7th Grade Science Fair Project

I just spoke to Duster and Dakota on the phone. Dakota is getting ready for the big science fair at the end of the month. Good news........

Wow we have been so busy lately, as Mike said we have the Sacramento Science and Engineering Fair coming up on the 26th and 27th of March. The problem is.......that Saturday is also opening day for the Auburn Little League. Dakota plays in the majors, star pitcher and First Base. So our plan is to do both! Friday Science fair, Saturday opening day and a game at 2:30pm and try and make it back to the fair in the evening! I hope that works out, we shall see. I know we are going on Friday for sure. Will update again as things get closer. Plan on taking lots of pics to share with everyone. See ya all, Dave and Dakota

Dakota did GREAT at the Sacramento Regional Science & Engineering Fair on Saturday. The judges were very interested in his project. He said "they kept asking me more questions" Did you have the answers I asked him "that was cool, I did" he said.

Out of all the Engineering entry's he took 3rd place. We were at the award ceremony last night and when his category came up, there was his name on the big screen! He had just pitched 5 innings of baseball that afternoon and was still in his uniform, he walked right up there and received a very SHARP trophy. I posted some pics of him. Next year we said we will continue the study and science of LASERS! Cool. Thanks to everyone here for their help and support. This is the best forum, full of "real" people and great information.

Glad he did well, I've been following this thread for a while but not much time to be able to post.

Maybe next year you can you can look at gas lasers, He-ne's are inexpensive and look beautiful, as well as having loads of stuff to talk about, not sure how advanced you want to go but recently I've been doing quantum physics at the equivalent of America's 12th grade in the UK and it's interesting to learn about how Photons are actually emitted etc.

I think thats a great idea. Some of the projects at the fair, you could tell had been at least a year in the making. Very well done by all the participants. That may be a little advanced for Dakota (maybe, maybe not) You know, I think the mind can take in and understand more than we give it credit for! For me I am interested in quantum physics! We will have to keep in touch. Thank you for the comments.

Dakota ---
I got the laser and lens back today in good condition. Glad you did well in the competition. Looking forward to the trophy pix !!!
Ask Dave (dad) to let you post here yourself sometime.

Hey Mike hows it going. Going to have to wait until Dakota gets back, he went to Shasta for the week with his mom (spring break). They should be updating the Sacramento Science & Engineering Fair website soon, should have pics there too. Here is the web address: Welcome to the Sacramento Regional Science and Engineering Fair Website

I tried to get pics of his trophy but its CRISTAL clear! In the shape of a star, shows what he won and why, just hard to take a picture of! When he gets back I will take one with him holding it. See ya.
