More like 2.5 seconds later. And you've totally ruled out divergence.

Not only that, but this wavelength is absorbed by the carbon dioxide in the air and has a divergence of 5mRad. It's not going too far. After 100 feet, it's a warm patch the size of a small pizza.

Since any laser beam is going to be a few miles in diameter at moon distance, it can't be too difficult to hit it.

Re: 60W: Cutting a match and lighting electrical t

Is the mirror set so it would reflect the beam back to earth? ::) Anyway, maybe the 4W unit was a HeNe or something :D with a tube the size of a truck and LOTS of current at high voltage to power it ;D

I hope not. I wouldn't want the average user carrying around 60W.

Yes. Just like the hundreds of tiny analogous structures in road signs.

For those of you just joining us, I have more videos: here, here, here, here, here, and here

You can use any standard goggles to protect your eyes from a co2 laser. The wavelength from a co2 is even stopped by clear glass. Also a co2 won't burn your retinas because the lens in your eye is opaque to the wavelength. What you need to worry about is frying the outside of your eyes and going completely blind

So this will be the next buyers guide?

Spot visibleXXXXXXXXX
Beam visibleXXXXXXXX
Beam visible in daylightXXXXXXX
cutting black tapeXXXXXX
pop balloonsXXXXX
sting bare skinXXXX
lighting matchesXXX
melt plasticXXX
cutting matchesXX
lighting tapeX

I guess we'll have to remove the X's for spot and beam visibility... though i think the spot will light up visibly on most materials in a very short timespan ;p

This is one of the most impressive laser vids I've seen so far. Made me think about the James Bond - Goldfinger laser scene.
