I think that a 500mW green system would require a 2.5W pump.. A 2.5W cmount should take around 3.25A, give or take a little. That wouldn't be enough to run a 5W which requires around 6.5A (source)..

Well I have 2 diodes here and the specs say that they can run 4 watts at 5 amps. I am just not sure if I will be able to get 5 amps out of that driver. I will find out tonight if 3.25 Amps is even enough to get a couple watts out of them.

You should definitely get a couple watts out for 3.25A in, and with a VERY long diode life expectancy as well.

So it puts out 1 watt with this driver. I don't have any lenses to use with it but burning way up close to the diode is lots of fun. I am going to stop this build right here though and offer it for anyone who wants to pick it up. Soon to be in the BST section.

What's the build like? Or do I have to wait until it shows up in BST? , also, you might be able to use any convex lens you've got laying round.. even a magnifying glass might get you focused enough to burn. You'll want to be careful burning up close to the diode.. wouldn't want any smoky buildup on the facets.

Good point, I am not going to try to focus it. I really should have IR goggles and I don't so I don't want to mess around with it too much. I'll go ahead and post it in the BST section now.
