What's the deal with 542 "green lasers"? I bought one off ebay to mount on my "plinker" AR-15 rifle and it was advertised as 532 nm. My understanding is that this is getting into the yellow range, but I'm looking around now and seeing quite a few 542 nm units for sale.

:o 542 ? It might just be a typo or something , in fact it MUST be a typo ! I've never seen a 542nm green.

you are not getting into the yellow til about 560nm, and actually a 542 would be even more visible than 532...

but still VERY green

and i second this is most likely a typo

yea, the fact that you trust ebay means absolutely nothing in this equation. the possibility that they lied to you and you bought it anyway is completely irrelevant.

Dude, I have no idea what you are trying to say here.  :-?  I obviously don't trust anyone selling chicomm crap on ebay--that's why I'm asking here to see if I've missed something on the wavelength description.  BTW, I bought a cheapie knowing it's not a fancy-high-power-fda-approved-laser show-device.  I wanted a fun green laser for quick on/off triggering to blast rabbits with.

The funny part is that it was DOA.  The seller let me keep it and is sending me a new one.  The housing itself was worth the money I paid for it because it has windage and elevation adjustments to it.  I'm either going to part out an old red pen laser I have sitting around (cat's gonna be pissed if I take it) or more likely buy a green laser module and rebuild the unit.

There are some really good sellers on Ebay, you just have to know who.  ;) I got one from Salostore, and it was WAY brighter than any 5mW greenie I had had before. I'm guessing 10mW, because I could see the dim beam in a brightly lit room and I had to squint my eyes to look at it on my finger. Had it a long time, and it broke only last week.  :'( Plus it was 11.00$ including shipping, and it was twice as good as my 28$ one. :o
