505nm and 480nm diode RESULTS

Yep. I also sent about a year ago one of my lasers to a member in the Netherlands and it went to the Netherlands just fine, then went to Canada, then back to the Netherlands..... wtf..... :wtf: lol.

It's also really good to hear that the other diode got sorted out. With the post office operating in the red all the time I guess it's no wonder they just threw you under the bus. Sucks that it happens, but at least it all worked out!
 
Well, here are some results everyone has been waiting for. It took much longer to set up and do the testing as I'm not getting around as well as I did just a few months ago.

I started off pressing one of the 480nm diodes and checking the wavelengths and power at increasing currents.

At 5.5 volts Vf and 58 mA it is 471nm. Not very high at all.
At 130 mA it was 473nm
At 145 mA it was 475nm
At 160 mA it was still 475nm and the power though a G-2 lens was 75 mW
At 175 mA it was 477nm and 81 mW
At 200 mA it was 478nm and 92 mW. BTW, at this current the Vf was 7.1 volts.

I stopped there, but berlieve it could be pushed harder. I was too afraid of possibly killing it to push it any harder than that. I will get around to the rest of the 9 480nm and 4 (now) 505nm soon and post my results here. I hope this has whet your interest for more results to come. :thanks: :D

Also Paul, looks like the efficiency isn't dropping off at 200mA. It's actually still going up. Feel free to try pushing it a little more :)
 
I have to be very careful as it is all on me if one of these dies. If you give me a current that you feel safe with me pushing it to, I will. Just lat me know what that limit is. If it dies then, I'm in the clear. :D
 
Try it up to 225mA and see what it's outputting. If it's 104mW or less, cut it there. Otherwise go up to 250mA and no higher.

If it pops, it's on my hands, not yours. Do it for science :)

Edit: I had the math wrong on the previous post, before anyone comments. Oh well, doesn't change the fact I want to see this pushed 100mA more than rated for.

Okay. I will go as far as 250 mA and no further. I'll do it slowly to try to minimize the risk. It's difficult to measure wavelength and power at the same time. As the light gets brighter I have to change my fiber optic cables position to get a reading that doesn't smash against the upper limit on the spectrometer.
 
ah, I wasn't too familiar with how that worked. Lemme know how it goes!
 
480nm at 100mw

This interests me greatly.

I might have to plan my first "low power" build using this.
 
Okay, guys. At 230 mA it hits 110 mW. I wasn't able to take a spectro reading too. Should I stop there or go for 250 mA? I'm waiting for the limit to take the next spectro reading as there is little need to know what this one diode will do all along the current curve.

Oh, that surprised me. I guess take it up to 250mA, go for it.
 
While I await my diodes from DTR's wonderful service, I wonder if it might be of interest to run some sort of "binning group buy" where we grab a large lot of diodes, bin them, and somehow sell them based on the wavelength. I certainly respect that buying stock diodes isn't influenced by binning (thanks DTR) but want the chance to have a more ideal wavelength, even if it costs something. That way there might also be a way for people who don't care about 1nm difference to save some money by getting a "less desirable" 504-506nm or something.
