Jayrob sells the kits, easy to assemble. Look at his post above and follow the link to the "Jayrob maglite Monster" You will need to buy a diode, Aixiz housing, batteries, and if you don't have one, a charger capable of housing those large batteries. All in all around $300.00 should more than cover everything needed.

To answer your question. With the bad spot characteristics of the G1/G2 lenses, I doubt they would help at long distances.
