Eyy, my greenie also has that rectangular artifact over the beam. Is that caused by back-reflections from a decanned diode?

It's much bigger with a short FL lens, try a G3 and it will be much smaller in the near field and mostly un-noticable in the far field.

I get right at 100mw @ 250ma from my 488's with a G3 and 110mw with a G2 but my beam looks much better and the artifact is much smaller with the G3 lens.

No bro! It is must to has at every diodes, and you can see it more easy when you use G2 lens or any lens has focus length shorter
Yes I also noticed that the effect only appears on mine when the G2 lens is close to the diode. Makes sense, you can't completely remove reflections from the laser die

Nice work T (y)

Great small laser to keep with you in Jacket or trouser pocket while traveling to have handy. Beautiful wavelength.

Size and shape make it useful for self-defense in these uncertain and dangerous times, as well --can be used as a "Kubotan" if necessary with just a little bit/small training and practice See video below.
