460nm 100mw Portable Laser Review

I purchased this laser about a month ago from tmack and I figure it's about time for a review. First, I would like to thank tmack for a great buying experience, it couldn't have been easier. This is the first laser I have bought in a few years and the first review I have done so bear with me please.

I wasn't too crazy about the FDA compliant host but it has since grown on me. It seems very sturdy and the focal ring adjusts very smoothly and the locking mechanisms are quite handy.





The color, however, I really liked from the start. You can definitely tell that it is more of a sapphire blue compared to that of the 445-450s, which appear slightly more violet.



This last one was my unsuccessful attempt at a beam shot although, I still really liked the way it turned out. I still need to invest in either a fog machine or some glycerin and if all goes well, I should have more legit beam shots within a few weeks. Thanks for reading.

Nice review thanks and a 460 nm one i haven't got .Although from the pictures it looks the same as my 450nms, but every ones eyes are that bit different. I don't remember Tmack having that in his collection .Looks great in its box .+1 for first review.

Had that one from a package deal from bloompyle. Got it with the hl532 and msv1 host. Great laser and went to a great new member. I wasn't really looking to sell it, but he was looking for almost exactly this laser, and because of our locations, I was happy to let it go to get his collection started again. Really glad you like it lethal. Now you can stop by and I can lpm it for you.

Well it's good to know I'm not going color blind I thought it looked a bit dark for a 460nm.

Hmmmm, you could be right but I'm not so sure. I'm planning on doing a 445 build sometime in the near future so I'll do a comparison to straighten things out. I do believe the color is a bit brighter in person.

Plus there aren't any commercialized 460nm diodes. (Don't any of you dare post a link to an $8,000 diode on nichia's website. That's not commercial ) You'd see them everywhere on the forums if there were available.

I wouldn't even trust myself determining a wavelength in that range of colors... you'd be better off sending it to mariomaster, RHD, ARG, Cyparagon or lazereer to get it spectrometer'ed.

Your eyeballs cannot quantify wavelength any better than they can quantify power. We don't want to see "it looks bluer" as your only evidence for a claim.

Let me state that I working on a budget here. I don't yet have the disposable income to spend on testing supplies. All I know is that it was sold to me as a 460nm and compared to a 445 it looks a bit brighter to me. I'm sorry that isn't good enough for you. I'll probably get it spec'd eventually and when I do, I'll update this thread. Until then if you "Don't want to see.... as my only evidence," I recommend averting your eyes.

In the sale thread by bloompyle, it was advertised as a 460nm, so that's what I sold it as. I specifically asked him if it was a 460nm because I have only seen one in a couple sigs like brucemeir. He assured me it was.

You don't need a $1,000 spectrometer to get a ballpark wavelength reading.

Fine call it more of an approximation than a claim, happy? I may not have a spectrometer but I do have people to back my claim, as tmack said, so I'd say it's a pretty fair approximation, wouldn't you? Also, would it hurt to be even the slightest bit constructive in your criticism? Otherwise you just come off as a know-it-all, which I don't appreciate. I just don't see why it so deeply concerns you.
