Well you could build one with 6 diodes and a 1 ohm 5 watt resistor there are plenty of circuits here on LPF just use

I have heard that some multimeters act as test loads.

No, a DMM is a measurement tool. Not a testload.

^A multimeter can measure current - hence it can be a test load (although the load is very small). It's fine for linear drivers and some buck drivers.
6 diodes is too many. You want 3 or 4. The resistor only needs to be 1W provided you run it for short intervals, and 2W otherwise.
