445 burn out when set at 1.5W anyone ?

Has anyone had a burn out of their 445 when set at 1.5W ?

With the exception of assembly mistakes it seems these diodes are bullet proof up to 2A which usually is beyond 2W if your using a good driver and heat sinking for both the diode and driver. DTR drove one up to burnout and I believe it was a bit beyond 2A. Checkout DTRs 2W in the review section. Its a beast and shows the durability of the diode.
 
Well, 2 amps IS pushing it well beyond recommended specs, and makes cooling difficult too - you're dissipating >10 watts in that very tiny diode package at that point. Its amazing enough that it doesnt die from COD at that point, but thermal overload should take its toll sooner or later.

This is true I guess I was thinking more short term without factoring diode life in. I havent read of any one frying a diode on power up under 2A. If your interested in decent diode life 2A is not recommended in a normal host. But a diode putting out 1.5W should be safe assuming quality of assembly and heat sinking as well as short duty cycle. In my opinion at least.
 
I actually am amazed that I have never lost a diode due to too much current. I have driven many of these as high as 1.8A sustained for hours and hours with no degradation. As long as you are dispersing the heat correctly I would not worry. These are not like the diodes that come out of dvd and blureay burners that run for short periods of time over their life. These are meant to be run for many hours at a time every day and are rated for 20,000 hours in the projector running around 1A.

At least that is my 2 cents.:D

Also when I ran that diode up over 2A was testing if I could kill it. I have not tried to run a diode up there for extended periods of time. From what I have observed after 1.9A it does not get any increase in output.:beer:
