I remember seeing people make 3D rendering of hosts a while back but i'm not sure what software they were using.

Does anyone know of any user friendly software that can make good renderings?
It doesn't need to be that complicated since these are just cylindrical parts.

I really like using Google Sketchup, great software for pretty simplistic drawings :) free too! I've made a lot of complicated designs with it and it rarely fails in doing what it's supposed to do. Check it out!

pontiacg5 had some killer nice 3D renderings of the Arctic that was to be built, but don't know what he used for em.

Yup, shoot me a PM if you have any questions or problems, I've used it for over 3 years so I know all about it.
