Hey ,

Well after a while I took the jump and purchased the big brother of the LZ4-40U600 4 die true 365nm LED engine UV led the LZC-70U600 12 Die 365nm led .

Specs are -

Dominant wavelength - 365nm
Output Power - 5W typical
Forward voltage - 49V Typical
Drive current - 700mA
Price at purchase - £245 + Vat .

Specs for its smaller brother LZ4-40U600

Dominant wavelength - 365nm
Output Power - 1.2-1.8W typical
Forward voltage - 14.2V Typical
Drive current 700mA
Price at purchase - £65 + Vat .

Both are driven by recom buck drivers with the LZ4 driven by a RCD-24-0.7 and the LZC is driven by a RCD-48-0.7 with VRef , Analogue/digital dimming / on / off .

The LZ4 is supplied by a 6 Cell Lipo Pack and the LZC will be run from a 15 Cell Lipo pack ( 3 x 5Cell packs )

WTF, why put it in something like that? You should have put it in a P60 drop in shell and then youd be ableto put it in a flashlight host. I have that exact LED in a solarforce host driven by a single 18650

Edit just realized its the LZ4 bigger brother but still, it has to be on a normal sized mcpcb, even if it wasnt it could be reflowed to one

That's what I decided to do and I had no intention of putting either of them in a flashlight host :p ...

The Led you have is the LZ4 ? , Are you using a boost driver to run it ?

35w of waste heat is awful lot of power for a flashlight host to handle. and the boost driver? switching freq in the MHz range, inductors with Isat>10A, switching fets with Rdson in the 2milliohm range and gate capacitance in the 8nF range...wat a monstrosity...

Its driven by a normal 105c flashlight driver. They are very similar to the drivers used in lasers. No need for anything fancy to drive these LEDs

i was talking about putting your new 12-die toy in a flashlight host and driving it off of 1 lipo cell. I somehow doubt it would work

Well that would be a 10A draw from the Lipo and that would need to be a good and small boost converter .

Either way i'm using a buck with 15 cells and not in a flashlight host :p

and im using a buck (zxld chip or a recom) and a 24v brick psu for the lz4.
i can't see a thermistor pad on that mcpcb. you have to figure out how and where to blob it and allow for thermal gradient in the compensation network

cant wait to see your first light with that thing...

Well its alive - Supply is 60V from 15 Lipo Cells , I measured the voltage drop of the led - 46.3V @ 700mA .

I'll probably drop to 14 LiPo cells , Second photo is the led at its lowest current the driver will run at , you can see the 12 dies outlined . Third photo is the led at full current behind a piece of paper .

Thermal control will be added very soon with fans ect .

Wasn't 395nm proved to be carcinogenic? or was that 295nm?

i wouldn't know about 395nm , this 365nm led is the same wavelength as high pressure Mercury black lights and the two 400W ones I have emit a lot more 365nm than this led .

The high power 365nm isn't great for the eyes , but I use polycarbonate goggles as they stop 365nm when I tested them on my 11W 365nm led

Wavelenghts below 330nm start to have a affect on the skin I think

how long does it take to charge 15 cells?

I never measured that but I will on the next charge . Id guess around a hour or so per pack at 1C , they are in 3 packs , 6 , 6 , 3 . The cells are 350mA each and I charge then at 1-2C , but I only use about 80% of the capacity .

I usually balance them each time I do a charge so it takes a bit longer sometimes . Last image is EL wire with its outer coloured jacket fluorescing under the 365nm but the pictures don't do the led justice , everything in my room that's fluoresces under 365nm dose when its on : P

This led dose kick out more visible light than then 4 die 365nm I have but that's probably a batch thing

how about using a 50v power supply, 24-50v boost or something similar?...

Would make sense but I had no need to , Plus the highest voltage PSU I have is 15V

Its easier for me just to use LiPos and not use a boot converter . Now I know the leds V drop i can get away with 14 Cells and not need any other power hardware other than the Led driver as 14 cells gives me 51.8V - 58.8V

Other than the fact I need a LiPo charger but as I had one from a while back using LiPos was better for me
