hey guys every one is trying to come up with the cheapest red laser well I think I have done it. Total cost 3 bucks. its pretty easy to build. I will post some step by steps when i do another one tomorrow. But its a single little led flashlight on a carabiner that you get from the dollar tree or other dollar stores. and a single 6mm 650nm module that you can get from ebay 10 of them for like 3 bucks.. any way it came out great and I know its no power house but just a quick little laser for chasing cats around the house it works great

SN9F 10pcs Mini 650nm 6mm 5V 5mW Laser Dot Diode Module Head WL Red | eBay

Mini 1 LED Flashlight Keychain Carabiner Torch Keychain Blue Color | eBay

those are the cheapest Carabiners Flashlights I could find on ebay still under three bucks

I personally have not metered mine but other members have metered these and they are typically more than 5 mw and it says on the those little flashight laser combos that they are 1 mw they could be a little more but not much more than 2mw

I have had several of them keychain dollar store lasers (still have one of the led light/laser combo's now) and they have always been listed as 5mW. With fog I can see the beam clearly on them. Never seen anything labeled 1mW to be honest but I'm sure they are out there

Take the flashlight apart pop out the led not to bad to take out and unsolder the bulb from this board

This is the module and board notes how short the wires are this is how they have to be in order to get the cap back on the host

I got 2 different little keychain lasers from a local 2 dollar shop and one LPM'd 7-8mW and the other 10-11mW, i wanted to test if they complied with the new Law that restricted Importation, Aquision, Sale, of anything over 1mW...It was a Fail... But They did change the stickers on them from 5mW max before the Law to 1mW max after the law(probably a new batch)

I have two small red lasers, one was my first laser and is a few years old but I remember it was labeled <5mW and the newer one is labeled <1mW, both run on those damn button cells and to make things worse they don't both use the same size button cell. I think you don't want them to have much power because you don't want them eating up those button cells too quick. I don't think I will get another one that runs on button cells. I have a third red laser that is very nice that takes two AAA and its a 635nm. I have no problem with a laser that runs on 2 AAA but I don't like the button cells.

Nice. Someone posted that them keychain lasers are 1 maybe 2mW so it's interesting to know someone metered a few and got what you would expect out of them. Thanks
