The wires were that twisted when I bought it. I finally released the diode and driver assembly from the heat sink with a pick like diachi mentioned. Can’t say it wasn’t a little unnerving though.
They did a good job with the heat shrink tubing at the diode end. I plan on reassembling it today with a new M140 diode and some improved heat sinking with Arctic Ice epoxy and a piece a copper.
