Hi, i'm a total newb here when it comes to lasers. I wanted something a little brighter then those 1mW dollar store laser pointers lol. So I was looking on amazon.ca for a new laser, i did SOME research and found out that the green laser is the most visible to the human eye. So i ordered this http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B005PO6Z4Q/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00

But the thing is, after i ordered it (should have did more research) i found out that most 200mW lasers are thicker then a pen... right? I read that it might be just a 50mW green laser that has been modified to 200mW.. I'll just have to wait and see but can anyone confirm or not confirm that this laser i'm getting is the real deal? There's no reviews for this laser but for the 100mW one had good reviews..(they only had the 5mW and 200mW in stock). It's coming from Ontario, not from china but it was probably made in china.. i dunno Thanks and i hope this is the right section to post this, if not please move.

Oh and here is the 100mW laser that has good reviews (but currently out of stock)... http://www.amazon.ca/TechMart-Green-Laser-Pointer-Astronomy/dp/B004KLQZMW

It will be under-spec. Probably 30-50-100mW from what ive seen before.
Buy goggles that are related to the wavelength you are using.
Have fun and be safe.

Do i have to buy goggles if i'm just going to use it outside?

1. It will be underspec as Kartracer00 already pointed out.

2. You got kind of ripped off. That pen is not worth anywhere near that price.

If you can, cancel this order, get a refund, send it back.

Then buy from REPUTABLE companies; laserglow, optotronics, jetlasers, skylasers, lazerer, o-like, rayfoss.

ahhh crap, it's already been shipped.. hasn't arrived yet.. but can i still cancel it?

LOL definitely a rip off ! i think amazon has a return policy for all their customers so you could send it back and with that money buy a better laser from the companies that InfinitusEquitas mentioned ...good luck and !! dont forget to use goggles with laser that output over 5mW (: have fun and keep us updated ^_^

Amazon has a very good, and simple returns procedure for items where they are responsible for fulfillment of the order.

Unfortunately this order was not fulfilled by amazon, rather just through them.

Once you receive the laser, you can still return it though. You might just need to cover the shipping back. Even if that's the case, you are still much better off just being on the hook for shipping rather than that full rip off price.

This sucks.. why would they say it's 200mW when it actually isn't? Why would amazon allow scammers to sell on their site? The reason i shop at amazon is because it's easy and reliable.. i guess i just gotta be more careful... oh well lesson learned the hard way lol.

Also, when i get a green laser (if i ever get one lol) and say it's anywhere from 50mW to 200mW... do i need the goggles for just star pointing and such outside? Is it dangerous to look at the beam(say when i'm pointing at the sky, the beam that follows), of course i know you're not suppose to look INTO the beam. I read the laser safety for beginners on this site and i know it's always good to have goggles because accidents can happen, but that would defeat the purpose when i'm trying to point out a star or something.. right? Plus i want that to see the lightsaber effect! Don't worry though i'm not an idiot to start swinging it and blind somebody lol.

Thanks for everyone's replies.. this is a really nice community you guys got going on here. :)
