1W 808nm for night vision

Hey first post here :)

I need a laser that is not/hardly visible but shows up on the night vision.

i bought this 1W 808nm diode: 808nm 1000 mw high power laser diode 1 watt | eBay

Can someone point me in the direction for a driver for this puppy?

Is a Aixiz module glass lens compatible with 808nm?

Anything else you can tell me would be great!

The Aixiz module won't fit this diode, it is 9mm while the Aixiz is made for 5.6mm diodes.
You would need something like this:

Driver? I don't know...
Depends on wheter you are trying to make a handheld or a "labby".
If you can isolate the diode from the lasers case, you could use any driver,
but if you want to use the laser casse as a path for current, you'd need a
negative regulator (sink instead of source) style driver.

No, the other way 'round, these IR diodes have their anode connected to their case, so it touches
the battery + directly. The driver goes between battery - and the diodes isolated cathode.
 
That one would fit the Aixiz, and I guess they are "case positive", too.

All laser diodes have a case pin, just some of them use it as the anode (IR), others as the cathode (most reds),
yet others (BluRay and 445nm) are "case isolated" and it doesn't connect to anything electrically.
These case isolated are the best to work with because of the flexibilty you have for
routing the current, you can alwyas bridge one of the pins to case, if you wanted to....

What do you want to do with it anyway? If you want to have an invisible lightsource for night vision, it may be far easier to get a LED flashight and replace the emitter with an infrared one.
 
That might be another option, depending on what power source is in his unit though he might need to isolate it. But true night vision already uses an IR emitter, on some its two powers low, and high. With but with too much power it could potentially white out your night vision at close distances.

I have used the 300mW 808nm diodes for 1st & 2nd gen NVS illuminators. They work pretty well when defocused. As long distance spot illuminators they are 'OK', but not anything to write home about. High power IR LEDs will work for wide area illuminators out to about 70 meters with glass lensing. The 5.56mm 808's fit into Axiz modules and the glass lenses work fine for me. I use 808nm drivers from China (off of eBay) and CR123 (3.6-3.7 Volts) & 22600 LiPo's. The CR123's last just fine and are alot cheaper.
 
Thats neat to know, I dont have much experience with night vision but was jsut trying to fill in the gaps. 1st gen at most.
 
For leds you can probably expect a beam pattern very similar to that it has with the normal led in place - so it can be a narrow or flood beam depending on the flashlight you start out with. Some modification to the existing driver will probably be needed due to the lower forward voltage of IR leds compared to white ones.

As for the laser diode: You can electrically connect it to the host, and the batteries too. The trick is to make a switchmode power supply that also inverts the voltage, not all that hard to do.
 
Ok, im trying to get away from LED's as i have the onboard IR illuminator and an external one :)

I want to be able to mark out points in view of the night vision with a dot, so that only night vision equipment can see it.
 
I also would like to know if a hand held 1W 808nm can be used for long range IR dot target designation.

Your 'onboard' illuminator is, most probablly, a super-high output I.R. LED.
They can usually be focused to a fairly narrow beam for 'spotting'. But, the lasers will work O.K. too.
An aside note,,, if you are attempting jacklighting, as well as being illegal, whitetails can see some I.R. and so can the gamewarden with NVS.
 
I'm interested for airsoft type training. Guys that are pretty good at daylight get completely disoriented and stumble around with night vision gear on. Coms - no help since commands just confuse everybody further. Visual IR cue is whats needed to point them in the right direction and flood IR lamps just don't cut it. With IR laser I'm thinking it would be easier to call up any given dumbass on coms and POINT where he is vs where he needs to be.

Enough of the onboard LED stuff, i DONT need a LED illuminator, i already have the on-board LED plus a Addon LED illuminator. i want a simple smallish dot (like that of a laser pointer but infrared so only night vision optics/cameras can see it for dot target designation.

I dont hunt so jacklighting has no meaning to me same with this game warden you speak of.
