What's a "C-Mount" diode ?

looking at that I don't really see why it's called a "C-mount" ?

Apparently, C-mounts require CuW onto which to be mounted.

relationship to Tungsten Copper:

The laser diode is directly soldered onto the copper tungsten heat sink, which acts as a P-side,
and the other side of diode cavity is wire bonded to a metal contact, which is the cathode. The
hole in the middle is used for mounting purposes.

I think you're understanding that incorrectly. The diode chip is mounted to a submount package, like this (Copper Tungsten is common for the submount material):

That submount package is then mounted onto the C-mount which is made of Copper or Copper Tungsten.

You can just bolt the C-mount package itself onto a big ol' chunk of aluminum, copper or brass depending on your requirements.
