Hey guys. First off, even though this is my first post, I'm not new on LPF. This is a second account I made because I disliked my account name a lot and it's probably a hassle to change an account name.

So, now my question. I ordered 2 Dragonlasers Spartan lasers which both require an 18650 battery to operate. Now I'd like to know what the difference is between protected and unprotected batteries. I can barely find any protected ones on the internet, while some say that unprotected batteries may damage flash lights. The thing is, does this matter for lasers, since lasers are obviously no flashlights.

Thanks!

I use unprotected cells. Unprotected vs protected is a matter of preference really.

How haven't been banned yet?

because he only has one post and hasn't broken any rules...?

Don't unprotected batteries tend to put out more voltage suddenly?

What should I be banned for? I'd rather have my old account name changed than make a new account, but thought it would've been way easier for me and admins to just make a new account.

He admitted to having 2 accounts.

@gozert-I don't think you should be banned, your friendly, just that is what ARG said a while back that multiple accounts aren't allowed. You did nothing wrong. Sorry for the confusion. I should have explained myself better!

Oh yeah, missed that. That is against the rules.

Ah, don't bother let him be. He's a new community member and was trying to help admin, nothing wrong intended by him. He may not have even known.

If I could somehow remove my old account, I would definitely do it. I could also go back to my old account if I must as it seems having two accounts violates the rules.

Anyways, I'm probably getting unprotected batteries. Thanks for the advice!

The spartan will drain the battery to the point of damage if you wait until the laser stops working to recharge the battery. The laser will be fine, however.

I suggest a protected cell. You can get away with a regular cell only if you recharge it often, or monitor your run-times and recharge after no more than 30 minutes to be safe.

Just bought two protected batteries, thanks for the advice!
