16x DVDRW Diode wont burn through anything

I've followed the AI and make my own driver for it but it doesn't seem to have enough power to burn through anything.
I follow this AI:

it doesn't matter if I use one 10ohm resistor or two, it still won't burn through anything. The only thing that I use different is instead of 100ohm pot I use 25ohm Pot and use 35v 47MF capacitor instead of 16v 10MF capacitor. can someone help me out. I'm a total beginner. so please easy on me.

Ok I will replace the Pot with the 100ohm. But for the resistor, how can I get to 3.125ohms, I can only find 1ohm and 10ohms at the store. Te only way I can get close to 3.125 is to put 3 10ohms resistor in parallel (10/3=3.333). Also with 400mA, will it kill the diode?

just guessing but do you think the 25 ohm pot mite be the problem?
because its not letting enough power through? i mean it is 1/4 of the ohms called for in the diagram

You should replace the two 10 ohm resistors and potentiometer, with one single resistor. The resistor you need is determined by a formula: R = 1.25 / desired current (A). The best current would be around 400mA so you would need around 3.125 ohms.
 
I've change the Pot to 100ohm and it seem to be stronger than before. I use 5ohms resistor and it was able to burn but it take about 10sec to start burning so I change to 4.7ohms and it take longer to burn. After that I switch back to 5ohms the laser was really dim and now it wont goes any brighter, it stay dim no matter what I do. Does that mean I've burn out my diode?
 
Yes it does, unfortunately. 400mA isn't very good for 16x diodes. I would've limited it to 300mA. You might also have done something wrong, like connecting the diode after the power was turned on. That would kill a diode instantly.
 
You live and learn :) Luckily those diodes are less than $10 each.
 
Hic. I've killed 5 diode already. 4 are from broken DVDRW that I have and 1 From my PC :cryyy::cryyy::cryyy: 4 of them I shock it so that is why it die, but this 5th one didnt die, its just dim, really dim. I'm out of DIODE now. SOOOO SAD.

Does it produce a dim dot or the diode shines like a weak LED? If it does produce a dot even if it's weak then the diode isn't dead, but the batteries are probably empty. If it doesn't produce a dot at all and it only shines like a LED than I'm afraid it is dead.
