100mW for $38??

DealExtreme is a well-known store around here, known for being cheap, having long shipping times and for the lasers being of various quality. Some lasers might be good, but some may be utter crap. Another thing is that they usually don't have an IR filter. This one might, I don't know, but someone else is better suited to answer that question. And this laser is pot-modded, which means it will probably have a shorter lifetime. But for $38 bucks, give it a shot  ;)

DX isn't a scam, but that kind of depends on how you define a scam. You will get the things you order, eventually, but the quality might not be as good. But they won't take your money and run.

ok good, i have seen discounts before, i got a 20mW green for $13, but this seems TOO low to be real, i may just buy a True 30mW instead

I have heard bad reports from the "pot modded" stuff, I would stick to one of the tried and true units.

yea i decided if i'm gonna get one i'll get a true green instead of a "factory pot mod"(enter sarcastic finger quotes here) unit.

Yea lol. "Factory pot modded" literally means "built to last as little as possible" ;D

I own this laser for 2 month now, for 38 dollar, im very satisfied. The beam is easily seen in day light, i think the power MAX is around 60 mw (according to the powermeter at faculty), i run it 30 min with no degradation of power. It drain a current of 400 ma (amperemeter), so not very "pot moded" but higher than the common 350 mA.
+ it's a little bigger than pen style, but the heatsink is better, i don't like pen style since i own it i prefer this design, plus the battery are cr123A less expensive and with bigger capacity...
It's an very good deal, but he is often sold out, i waited a lot before i got it

That's actually good value for the money then, especially the stability - something often somewhat dubious at best in this kind of laser.

Surely the description is overrated, but if it read "50 mW laser that keeps that power up for half an hour - $38", i'd be temped to buy it ;)

your one of the lucky people who got a good laser, some people have gotten it and said it was crap.  the host is the same host found on the Hulk series laser.

for the same amount of money i would but a Dilda, I've heard much better reviews about it.

your the person that built the RGV MXDL right? someone else was telling me about it.

"crap" o0 im a bit surprised, maybe i have luck, but for me it's a must ;)!
It depend on what you want, green or red, red is much easily stable and for less $$ you can reach high power to burn stuff. Green are more complicated, more unstable (got warm), with a low power, sometime hidden with IR. My 38$ green can't burn plastic ain spite of the review on Dx (coz no focusable i think), but i know that i have at least a true 50 mw (for+0$ you can have the pot modded version). After 30 min, i need to put other battery, the laser is not warm at all ; for me it's a good value :)

I would say buy it. I mean, it really doesn't cost all that much. 50mW for only $38 is a great deal, and if you don't get a good one, oh well. I would suggest giving it a try, but only if it is worth the risk for you. I mean, mauswiesel has had some good impressions.
