Cheap <5 mW lasers from sites like focalprice do not exactly have reliable output. Some of them could output 1mW, some could output 50mW, you never know what you're getting. If you want a reliable <5mW laser, take a look at this, optotronics is a much more professional seller: Optotronics Product Details

Hey guys I found some lasers I want to buy but, they are very much alike except for the 1 MW (1 mw 532 nm Green Beam Laser Pointer (Black) - US$ 27.50 from Green Laser Pointers) and the 5 MW(5 mw 532 nm Green Beam Laser Pointer (Black) - US$ 29.66 from Green Laser Pointers). Which to get/whats the difference between 1 MW and 5 MW? Or should I get both? I might get both because the site has free shipping.

Hi there,

The difference between 1mW and 5mW is that one of them is 1mW and the other 5mW.
When this is too hard too understand, you probably shouldn't buy one in the first place.

Cheers, sm.

Also MW means MegaWatt, which is quite a bit (one billion times) more than mW which is milliWatt.

So to answer the questions you actually asked, as opposed to the one you meant to ask...

The difference is 4MW, in the question you asked, and 4mW in reality. Which is also probably not the case, since cheap lasers like that tend to be overspec.

Also if either hits you, or you can't tell the difference between 1 and 5... either way, you're in trouble ;)

This was probably just a typo on your part but a megawatt is a million watt and therefore 1MW is actually a billion times as much as 1mW.

Lol, no it wasn't a typo... it was most definitely a brain fart though, I was thinking about watt as opposed to mega :p
