1.9W Jayrob 2D Mag Host

Yes, you are correct...

The P7 has 4 tiny emitters in one.

I have not really done any research into that 6 X emitter from the RL-2088, but I just remember that I was not that impressed with it when I did a side by side comparison with one of my single 18650 P7 mods...

My double 18650 P7 was very comparable with the 3 X 18650 RL-2088.

The other thing, is the run time. Supposedly the Osram 6 Die emitter can give 1300 lumens. But at what current??

I'm thinking that the P7 emitter will be a good match for using 2 X Li-ion's in the Maglite...

So that's why I figure I'll do the Maglite 2 D using that P7 module...

I'll let you know how the P7 mod turns out...

Hey this custom heatsink might look pretty cool on the Maglite with a polished finish huh?

Definitely. The grooves look great. Plus any more weight on the head and you can really do some damage.:eg:

The six die Osram LED from the RL-2088 has a couple amps current draw, but the Vf about 12v or so, probably more.

Yep, plus the higher current draw needed as well as the higher voltage...

I think the P7 will be perfect for this set up using the large capacity 32600's! :)

Yeah it may feel a little end heavy...

Probably not with those large batteries, but I'll know better once I make the prototype...

Personally I would have gone with one of the SST-50 stars, more expensive and would need a machined reflector or one of the P7 ones a bit drilled out, but it would have had a much smoother beam. Maybe an option for the future? ;)

To be honest I find strobe and SOS modes kinda useless. Would be easier to chain some low-mid-hi AMC7135 drivers in my opinion.

You may never use that mode, but if you ever get in a stranded situation, you will want to have it! (batteries will last a long time in SOS mode - or a really slow strobe, like once flash every 8 seconds)

I sank my Dad's bass boat duck hunting when I was maybe 22 years old...

My buddy and I got the boat bailed, but got wet doing it. All the batteries were dead except for the extra battery in the front. Which was barely out of the water. (front of the boat had flotation) Motor would not start - water damage to the electronics...

We got stuck out in the river (and anchored) because the tide took us away from shore when we pushed ourselves out of the mud when the tide was going out.

We almost froze to death out on the river in the dead of winter. But I had used that battery to connect a spot light. Which I used as a signal.

The coast guard that towed us in at 2 AM, said that if it were not for me using that light, they would not have found us in the dark. And the fog would have probably rolled in before dawn...

If you ever need it, it's worth it's weight in gold...

Hi, nice laser.
I'm working on making similar project in different host that will also require D size Lithium cells. 3.7V aren't easy to find. Your source sold out all the black ones, but they sell these blue version. Any thoughts? Price is much lower than black ones.
32600 3.7V 5000mAh D Li-ion Cell [E4753] : BestOfferBuy.com, Buy DVD, Shop for PC accessories, Discount MP3 Players, Bargain Deal for Surveillance Equipment, Cheap R4 for NDS, X-sim Unlock

Bestofferbuy sucks. I refuse to buy anything else from them. This is a site that a lot of people order from over @ CPF:beer:

No problem.

That is good to hear about them. I have a couple orders in with them because they were recommended in some old posts I found on CPF. Hopefully they still live up to their reputation.;)

EDIT

They recently sent me a discount code that is like %5.

So I noticed from your other threads, that you really like your dual FlexDrive builds... (good job you do on them)

Well the Maglite can do the same thing now! :D

Some things to consider:

* Very heavy duty side button forward clicky
* Huge capacity 32600 or 32650 (either one will fit my mod)
* Lots of room inside the head for mounting the dual drivers to the back of the main heatsink

Mag D 'Stubby'

This is a cool little mod that I did for setting up a large capacity single Li-Ion Maglite...

This will be great for a single (or dual) FlexDrive set up!

There is plenty of room inside the head to mount the driver (or drivers), heatsinked to the back side of the main sink...

Pricing for basic 'Stubby' kit:

* Maglite 2 D host - $35 (or send me your Maglite - any D size Maglite can be cut down)
* Massive heatsink - $38
* Prep host (switch) with lead wires - $10
* Re-size the host as shown above - $20

Very nice stubby you got there Jay.

I did a 10 minute run last night with the Mag. It was done with an Aixiz lens as it is the only one I have on hand.:D
