Re: 1.4W-2.5W Blue-Ice Lasers $125 shipped (Now available as $50 JAD KIT)

The only 16340s that may not fit would be protected cells. Any unprotected 16340 should fit perfectly. I would never suggest altering a battery to make it fit btw. I am not sure if you mean your IMRs aren't fitting? What batteries do you have that are higher amp than IMRs?

The uprotected IMR's fit. My others are protected New XXXXfire's 880mah and even 1000mah

Are the 550mah IMR acceptable to use in the premium?

I'm not worried about getting the most out of my laser....i'm worried about over discharge and having a catastrophy recharging. Or just popping the batteries while in the unit.

PS the protected do fit* kinda* but you can't completely screw on the switch cap without really pushing on the driver diode unit.

i can screw the endcap on about halfway before it becomes snug( without forcing anything) with my protected batts....it just looks sloppy.

I just received my laser from yobresal, and it's awesome so far :thanks:! I'm really loving it.

Two questions:
Would a single 4.2v 3100mah Panasonic NCR18650A battery work with this laser? Mine came with two separate batteries inside the laser, and I don't want to break it.

Another easy question: I'm assuming no, but is this laser focusable?

Thanks again, I'm going to get back to getting some beam shots! :D

Stay safe!

If you have the premium i can answer cause i asked Yobresal that very same question.

It would be down on voltage ....as 3.6 + 3.6 = 7.2 V which is what your laser was set up for.

So you'd have plenty of amps , but the laser would be weak on 4.2v out of the 7.2v needed.

You definitely CANT use 2- 16430 when your unit is set up for 1- 18650.
you fry it!

I joined the forum for a chance to purchase one of these, among other things. I have a question though, do sellers usually have reservations about selling to noobs? I have several lasers including a 100mw 542 that I built, a Pioneer 300mw 650 and a ton of el cheapo overs. I'm dying for a nice 445 without breaking the bank or selling a kidney (or any of my other lasers) and this BlueIce fits the bill. Just curious because I have no problem paying my dues, I'm just curious how things work.

I didn't get the premium laser.

Mine's set up for 2 16340 batteries. But would a 1 18650 work? I only ask because when I originally purchased this laser from yobresal, he was still using the 18650 batteries so I purchased a single 18650 from another website, so I would have two batteries. But now I'm not sure I can use it without breaking it. The charger doesn't work either :(

You can use fewer batteries at any time in any lithium powered laser. You will run your laser at a lower power though. As stated above. If its designed to run to put two in it to get full power.

My first purchase was from yob, and started before the moderator had even approved my account to post.

I have found that if you seem mature and seem to respect and understand the responsibility and potential danger of having a high powered laser, then most people here are open to selling to someone unknown to the forum.

Re: 1.4W-2.5W Blue-Ice Lasers $125 shipped (Now available as $50 JAD KIT)

IMRs are the best type of lithium cell to use in pointers like these. The way you prevent over discharge is pay attention to your lasers output. If after a while of off and on use all of a sudden your output drops drastically and your laser isn't hot then your batteries are dead and you need to shut it off. If you keep pushing them longer then you will damage them but as long as you stop as soon as you notice the output drop you will be fine. This goes for any type if battery protected or not.

You can minimise risk of fire or explosion with any lithium cell by storing them outside of the device and by never using a battery fresh off the charger unless it has sat and cooled off for some time before use.

ok then, i can easily do that.

Re: 1.4W-2.5W Blue-Ice Lasers $125 shipped (Now available as $50 JAD KIT)

Also, don't ever charge a battery that is still warm from hard use. r

Remember all lithium batteries are pretty volatile so never charge batteries very close to highly flammable material. Also, never leave them on the charger when you sleep or leave the house. While its unlikely anything will happen it isn't a good thing to risk. You can't go wrong putting a small fan directly onto some charging batteries and it can actually increase the life of the batteries keeping their temperature down while they charge.

To tell you the truth, you xxxfires probably have a lower mah than the AW's, they are just labelled incorrectly as a marketing scheme. Chinese companies don't care at all.

Most definitely stick with AW IMR for high power builds such as this.

Understood. thanks gentleman ^ I have back up batteries for each unit and then some.

When i charge i use a series of metal cooking trays as sheilds around the charger, with an overhead fan running.

dont need my new hobby to cause me heartache.

There are lots of users on DX who test the batteries once they receive them. I only purchase sets that repeatedly test out to be high capacity. This isn't saying that I will never end up with a low capacity battery but it helps reduce the chances. I am also having issues finding a good source for AW IMR batteries, got any suggestions?
