1.3-1.4Watt 520nm NDG7475 GREEN BULLET Build

The 9mm long barrel has the lens pretty much flush with the end of the barrel. The 7mm long barrel has the lens a few mm in from the end. I have threading issues with the 7mm long barrels and the 12mm modules. I've tried to talk to Podo about this but doesn't seem to get anywhere.
So with the lens being flusher to the end in a 9mm barrel you see it focusing better with more threads into the module and helping the issue or the opposite?
I only have one G7 in the 7mm barrel but using it in a A140 so I can't compare.

How did I miss this thread before:can:
Real nice build and lens comparison pic's..
536616, a little late to ask but were you using the 9mm length barrel for the G7? It looks like it's in the shorter 7mm barrel in the pic's next to the G2..Have you tried a G7 with the longer 9mm barrel?

The G7 I got from podo is a 9mm one as shown:
ez8QDrN.jpg

This is the end with the lens flushed all the way(this end faces the diode):

This is the end that faces away from the diode:

This G7 only consists of 1 lens, which is the 2nd picture shown above.

Hence, when I want this lens to provide me a parallel beam of infinity, it can only do it when it being screwed in with only 1 fully clockwise turn:

It was shaky and could drop off anytime.

*UPDATE 1*

I managed to push the lens out with a rubber tip pen I had
and flipped & mounted the lens. You can see the convex end of the lens now sticks out: (Before that, the convex side of the lens was inside the 9mm case
ffyaj4X.jpg

This time I had to have the end with the lens facing away from the diode, because the flat side of the lens have to be facing the diode for it to converge the beam.
Something like this:

*UPDATE 2*

I have tried it out but it seems that the beam is still diverged even after screwing it all in way into the diode module/heatsink. This means the lens is too far away from the diode now...

I guess it would be perfect is the lens was in the middle.

I'm not sure if that's a 9mm barrel, looks to short but to be more specific and anyone please tell me if i'm wrong the 9mm barrel actually measure around 10mm long and the 7mm close to 8mm which seems to look like like it in the pic?

It may be a 9mm barrel, as in 9mm diameter, but you're right Pete, that seems way too short at 8 or 9mm long, besides, it looks as if there is only ~5mm of actual thread length.
The lens barrels with the G lens that we get from DTR are around 10mm long; this is probably what Sanwu is putting their G-7 lens in.

This looks to be about the same length as the plastic barrels that hold the acrylic lens.

Thanks Bow,
Sanwu does offer the G7 in both 7mm and 9mm length versions as dden mentioned but still wondering how flush the lens is to the back of the barrel?

Here are some photos showing the difference, and the hell i went through trying to remove the 7mm lens from a 12mm module. The 7mm lens position is centered along the length of the barrel. The 9mm lens position is at the end of the "diode" side of the barrel. If the 7mm lens would thread into a 12mm module it would be the way to go. I have had no luck doing so. The treading on the 7mm barrrels aren't cut as deep as the 9mm barrel threading.

This is all confusing?
There has to be way to many different manufactures. None of my 2 shorter 7mm "long" barrels have any grooves cut into the threading on them. One has a G7 and the is a 2 element. Both measure 8mm long though.
My standard G2 9mm "long" barrels measure 10mm long and are Dtr's units but can't say where my G7 or 2 element came from?
To try to keep it simple lets say the thread pitch is all the same at 9x.5
dden are the pic's of yours Sanwu lenses? which show a true 7mm and 9mm length..
and is there a width difference between just the lenses themselves on G2 and G7 that I believe your saying?
Kudos for trying to dismantle one though:)

I'm sure most here have seen the empty brass lens housings available on eBay for ~$1.00 each. Seems like a better option than trying to reuse these lens housings from single element lenses and multi element housings.

Very interesting thread, I to have a G7 in 9mm length and had the same prob with 1 or 2 threads holding it in but i couldn't see how they came apart, I'm going to see if i can remove it now that i know it's pressed in and most likely swedged as well, Once it is removed i'll see if i can put it in a dif barrel with spacers to put it at the mid point of the barrel !

Yes they are Sanwu lenses. The thread pitch is the same between them like all the other lens we use in every day pointers (2 element, 3 element, DTR and SL G2). The OD and ID are identical as well (talking about Sanwu lenses). The diff (9mm vs 7mm) is the length of the barrel as shown in the pics. As far as i know there isnt a 7mm length G2 lens from Sanwu, only the G7 lens has the 2 barrel length options. The 3 element lens that Sanwu sells is just like the ones you get from DTR as far as looks and dimensions. The actual glass lens in the G7 is the same between the two available barrel lengths from Sanwu. The 7mm barrel has the lens positioned in the middle of the barrel and the only feature showing proper orientation are the two cuts on the barrel (same flat head screwdriver cuts seen on all the hobby lenses currently) and the side without the cuts is the diode side.
The reason I cant use the 7mm barrel G7 lens on non Sanwu made lasers is that the thread depth is too shallow for our 12mm diode modules. Even though the pitch and OD are the same the threads arent cut as deep and they bind in the 12mm module threaded lens cavity.

I've got a 9mm x 0.5mm die, I wonder if you ran the Sanwu style lens body through it and chased the threads, it would then fit in the 12mm modules?

I bought some single element longer FL lenses a few years ago. As I remember they are 7 mm to 9 mm FL lenses, but are still loose. Might be time to pull them out and mount them to see what I can do with them. Seems silly to me to put a 7 mm FL lens at one end of a 9 mm housing. There is no way to make a setup like that work properly.

Really the threads arent cut as deep and they bind with the 7mm barrel G7 lens, But the 9mm barrel doesn't bind like the 7mm does ?

I would hope so. If you happen to try it out let us know the results.

The problem is that I have the die, but no Sanwu lenses. I may have to order a few and try it out. :D
