<1.0 mRad too good to be true?

I am down to LaserGlow, Optotronics, and SkyLasers for a 5mw green. LaserGlow and Optotronics claim a divergence of <1.2 mRad, but SkyLasers boasts <1.0 mRad. Should this be a deciding factor?
 





Hmm, I'm going to check the divergence of my Laserglow Lyra now. Anyways this shouldn't be a factor, and we know for sure that Laserglow and Optotronics units are top-notch.

Edit: Alright, I measured the divergence. It's about .9mRad.

One member said his Skylaser isn't under 1 mrad. And Opto offers under 1mrad, Opto seems the safest bet.

But you don't know for sure that SkyLasers is top notch? Also, according to Laser divergence the difference between 1.2 and 1.5 mRad is a lot. Could the same not be said for the difference between 1.0 and 1.2 mRad?

What I meant is the divergence for Optotronics pen pointers are all <1.2 mRad and their RPL series are all <1.0.

Anyway, I get your point. It shouldn't matter that much for a 5mw.
 
Trust me it doesn't, I doubt any company would even test for it. I still don't really understand focusable lasers and just how tight they can get
 
congragts on ur opto purchase.
i wish i could have helped you decide which laser to go with. i have an optotronics 150+mW premium pen and its rated at over 164mW average. this pen is well made and focused in very well. you will deffinately enjoy your pen.
why did you decide to go with the 5mW, and not a 30mW or higher?
 
o ok. ur a good guy. my red laser is a 10mW and it has a divergence of an apearing 0... idk y im more of a green person. i think its solid state
 
Omg, please, don't waste your money lol, for a freaking 5mW green laser go dealextreme, they are usually overpowered lol -.-

Also, if it was a 300mW green laser I would understand that you looked at the 0.2mrad difference, but for a 5mW pen????

I wanted to buy a 5mw green that I could trust to be 5mw. To me that is worth $40. I did not want to risk buying one that might be over powered and harm my cats eyes. As for being paranoid - nah. Just a little OCD. :yh:
 
If you're really concerned about your cats eyes, you need to buy a <5mW red laser. A green laser pointer with the necessary power control circuitry to guarantee that your output never exceeds 5mW will be more expensive than I could justify for a cat toy, IMO. It is inherent to all green lasers that the output power fluctuates, sometimes by a large amount. Any cheap "5mW" green laser is guaranteed to go above and below that level.
