0 Volt Battery

I was burning dark newspaper with me 240mW MXDL, all the sudden the Laser went off. The first thing came to my mind was shit! The Diode is killed. I opened up the Laser and measured voltage drop at the Diode it was 1.6v too low to Lase :. I then measured the batteries 3.6v "Trust Fire" protected RCR123A, first one 3.36v and second one 0v .  Knowing the danger of over discharged and bad Lithium batteries, I have put it away for good. ;D

Actually it might just be the protection circuitry that is causing it to read 0 volts. I have heard of this happening before. When i was using one of my trustfires in a flashlight, it never dimmed, just all of the sudden went off.

Sounds like the protection circuit kicked in. If it saw reason to self destruct then I'd say there was probably something wrong with the cell, perhaps dangerous temperature. Dispose of at a lithium battery disposal place, not in regular rubbish or anything.

Sounds normal to me. I have some of those trustfire batteries and when they drop below 2.7Volts the protection kicks in and they read close to 0V. Just put the thing into your charger and see if it charges. Keep an eye on it while it's charging just to make sure it doesn't set your house on fire if I am wrong.

It could possibly be your multimeter has a blown fuse or something, a battery is never usually 0 volts. i get atleast 0.01V just outta the ground!!

That's how I dispose of all of my dead CR123 batteries It's a very pleasing light show.

Hi guys my battery is OK now, 4.21v fully charged.
Today was our trash pickup day, last night I was about to dump it in the trash, but was concerning about the proper disposal of Lithium battery. Glad I didn't dump it in the trash.

It is a small round pcb that is usually hidden under one of the terminals.

I use UltraFire protected 18650 in my 2 mode Cree Flashlight, when the battery voltage is low the light's High-mode will shut off, but I can still switch to the Low-mode. The RCR123A just shut off completely; learn some thing new all the time.

It would be helpful if the battery comes with a user manual. ;D
