Firstly, the reading laser on a CD player is quite low in output power. The divergence would have also been large from where you were standing as the lens is set to narrow the beam directly in front of the reading lens to read the tracks (pits) on the CD. focal length is anywhere from 0.5-1cm...
Just had my first CoVID test 2 weeks ago. I had symptoms but the test came back Negative 60 hours later.
We have both the S.African and European strains here in BC.
This is an electrostimulation machine from the early ~1900s ( it appears to be)
the battery shown is probably from the late 40's early 50s..
These quack medical devices actually started showing up around the mid-late 19th century ( 1850/60s)
The electro stimulation machine was used to relieve...
yes... I also noticed this too.
Not usable anymore.
Some of the advertising on here is so invasive it pops up in the middle when you are trying to write a response. Some advertising on here has also triggered a security response with my Kaspersky Internet security which I am forced to use for...
Actually, the head geochemist for BC recommended both XRF and XRD ( Xray crystallography) as Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) has limitations. First, the electron microprobe (both EDS and wavelength dispersive spectroscopy (WDS)) is designed for the analysis of materials with a smooth...
Ok, so I have just had an hour long conversation with the head geochemist with the BC Govt. regarding my find. Basically, my find is to be expected as relatively young Uranium and Thorium deposits are quite common in the entire interior (Okanagan) region, I kind of knew that already (obvious)...
Yes, indeed. Anything active enough to cause fluorescence ( usually by Alpha excitation) wouldn't be something I'd want around either.
Practically speaking : The Uranium based minerals are all highly collectable and rather expensive. Some very unusual secondary uranium minerals also form...
I just got back from a fairly long trip into B.C. 's desert, the Okanagan valley. Lots of wine tours, walking and sightseeing. One evening last week I left my Wife and Sister-in-law to have some beach time. I grabbed my survey meter and headed up to an area I monitored last year for anomalous...
The Hu opened the Nadaam festival this year and obviously gave the crowd something to remember!
If you look carefully there is a guy lost his deerskull headbanging too much... :)
This is bound to happen when you invite a mongolian metal band to the Nadaam festival.
More importantly they...
He was a great inspiration of mine. He was a bright and gifted engineer as well as a model human being.
He was also the most competent on mythbusters and designed many of the more complicated shows.
Grant we wish you the best on your journey to the next life.

The loud pop is usually a good indication of a bad electrolytic cap blowing its case. This is normally a PSU issue.
Nice thing is that PSUs are pretty cheap.
try the motherboard with a new PSU and see if it comes back... a blown cap is usually pretty easy to spot.
I wasn't all that young, but in 2007/08 I took a direct strike from a 12.5KW Tesla Coil in the chest. Output was around ~2.5-3MV.
I still have the burnt shoes and shirt as a reminder to always have a safety interlock on any coil over 2KW.
I remember being struck in the chest and then waking...
Interesting finding... I am however, in agreeance with Kecked on this.... optic fibres are usually doped with Erbium / Ytterbium and that small peak could be as a result of either materials fluorescence at 532nm.
Below is a document showing absorption and transmittance info on both fibre...
