Hello,
I want to share this here both as a question and as an alarm to anyone reading this who uses or will use lasers.
When I went on to buy my first blue 1W 445 nm laser, it was off an internet post. The guy selling it proceeded to show it to me, us both unprotected, in a bright sunlight...
I am not sure yet what is the answer. It seems it’s either a) No, 380-500 nm lasers are not used for light shows; b) They are but shouldn’t or c) It’s a myth; the light is not THAT dangerous.
I figured out I am wondering. How is it possible for blue lasers to be used in laser shows (even when diffused, thus much less powerful), if the blue light in any strength is considered to possibly cause photochemical damage to the eye?
Hello,
I randomly saw this happening at a fair in Bulgaria. The laser is scanning right in the eyes of the buyers from thus stand as well as kids are playing among the figures. Is this a safe situation?
I have no other good place to post this question, so please bear with me. I was recklessly shown how a 1W 445 nm laser burns paper, lights a match and melts a plastic cap. The demonstration happened outside. I did not know all that I know now about lasers at the time of the event. I looked...
You will not easily get flash blindness off from a 455 nm laser, even less so from 405, so don’t rely on flash blindness to be your red flag. I observed the dot of a 455 from 1 meter on soil and while burning paper for about 30 seconds total and watched the beam in dark sky twice. My vision...
Please, refer to my own self-conclusion on the topic in my other post, https://laserpointerforums.com/threads/newbie-here-will-looking-at-the-lasers-dot-for-a-minute-from-1-meter-with-no-glasses-cause-harm.104863/
Okay. I feel the need to give back. I will write this in my both two similar threads and will, of course, never double post again.
I went to a thorough eye exam today. I have thankfully not suffered any serious damage, but my ocular pressure is rises a lot - it is 22/26 on left and right eyes...
Steve,
That is an amazingly well written, beautifully informative reply that I would think should be linked up in a special section with commonly asked questions and perfectly composed answers to them. Now I know everything someone who is not looking to try it himself needs to know.
And no, I...
Guys come on! If this is some super sophisticated forum kept only for and by pros I will gladly make an exit. I was the first one to ask this especially for blue lasers, and am in no way connected to the user here. Anyhow, I am beginning to get tired of getting bashed like a little kid for...
I did. It talks about not using lasers above 500 mw as they are Class 3b or 4 (but doesn't explain how those low wattage lasers cover a stadium); and also speaks about pulsed and continuous lasers, but this doesn't seem to be related to the class, and at the end it gets a mess and I don't...
I also had that question of glasses / no glasses at distance of about 1 meter (4 feet) for a blue laser, as I see opinions on both ends of the spectrum.
Hello,
I am a newbie to lasers in general and on this precious forum. I did use the search bar for "laser shows" and "laser show safety", but didn't seem to find that explained. How come laser shows are not a danger to the audience? I see and have been to such ones that scan over the audience...
Thank you, I will look for what you have pointed out, it's good keywords I believe, for a newbie. This is the beauty of a forum in a way, getting to know the new members and for them to talk to the ones in the know, otherwise it will be only a set of wiki pages. Thanks!
...Which brings us to my belief his videos should be taken down (but I doubt it with millions of views on them)... Do you imagine what your regular kid will think (and that is usually the targeted audience of such channels anyways) once they see him do "all those cool things with his laser" and...
