    ***Greetings fans of the LM317~

I don't mean any offense to anyone, I just couldn't explain it to some people clearly enough, but no problems I just edited it and made it clearer.

says the guy who deleted all of his embarrassing posts to this topic

we already got the point across the page if you would bother to spend 5 minutes and read the replies

I did say that current is directly correlated with power though. But yes someone who is trying to build a circuit should simply go with information from credited sources and do the trial and error approach instead of listening to what people are saying on this website.

    ***Greetings fans of the LM317~

I'm being vague on purpose, you would know this if you read the first paragraph. The purpose of this post is to bring attention to the fact that what people say on here is complete bogus. In other words, until you can do it yourself, the information you have is wrong. This is also a classic...

    ***Greetings fans of the LM317~

wiring a voltage regulator and a current limiter in series do not cancel each other out. voltage is not limited, it is regulated. current is limited and not regulated. so voltage is held in between two values and current is always less than a value. this configuration protects the diode from...

thanks for the input, but did you know that capacitence is the exact opposite from a resistor? it other words, parallel capacitors are added and series capacitors are one divided by the sum of the recipricals o.0

    ***Greetings fans of the LM317~

i was just commenting that the LM can act as both a current limiter and a voltage regulator and if you use them both as the same time in the same circuit then you can increase the maximum current without heatsinking a.k.a. makes a more powerful driver smaller

    ***Greetings fans of the LM317~

**************EDIT************* UPDATE What's up y'all, I think the LM317 is the best voltage regulator because of its availability and user-friendliness. So I am ranking based on convenience, to me. Anyways, I would like to comment on the fact that you can use just one or more than one LM317...

    Hello from Australia!

Welcome Josh! I am from the United States and I too love the hands on aspects of physics! It makes me feel great when I begin and achieve a connection between what I can see and what I can think the effects are around me. Light is a very awesome thing! haha Anyways, I'm glad you're taking a...

    Thermite

Awh! Doing the electrolysis is half the fun! I'm going to try out this baking soda reaction myself and then let you know how it goes!

    Thermite

Great job finding a suitable sample of iron oxide and great reaction! I love watching high energy reactions go haha I watch youtube videos of those salts in the water and the thermite over the ice all the time lol Back to the baking soda decomposition..... You don't need an acetylene torch to...

    Thermite

Okay I did some more research and salt is NOT the electrolyte you want.... What you want it sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) because there aren't any harmful byproducts like chlorine gas... 4 Fe + 3 O2 + 2 H2O → 4 FeO(OH) However, the product is what I like to call Iron(III) Oxide-Hydroxide or...

    Thermite

If you have not yet given up on the electrolysis part I have a few recommendations for you that will increase your yield and purity/concentration of the product. (These are just my recommendations of what I'm told in chemlab, not compulsory remarks) Use distilled water instead of tap water...

    Could use some advice?

My experience with lasers is small but very solid indeed; I've found that paying more for a laser does not give you a better laser. The second "gold or platinum plated" laser is certainly beautiful. It all depends what you use the laser for. If you are presenting to large CEO companies, I would...

    Back Home for the Weekend

wait, so getting a new showerhead will improve my water pressure? this doesn't make sense to me because it is still the same pressure coming out of the wall... oh i get it,,, decreasing the size and number of jets coming out of the showerhead increases the pressure. got it. but then i get...

    Back Home for the Weekend

Here's how I view it. If you can relate your life to lasers even if its extremely remote, you should post it on here; because we all love lasers right? ***after all, this is a section called "off-topic" and "other"

    Thermite

I've heard that if you burn thermite over a bunch of liquid nitrogen/ice that it will make a very quick reaction, almost an explosion comparable to TNT! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6cMmk8LZgQ http://youtu.be/GcA7qEkwJuA
