No, rather pure curiosity 😁 But some fancy models with tens of kilometrs of range should have powerful emitter what is good for making laser etching device, just combine them using some PBS cubes designed for IR and in result u will have competition to the CO2 laser tube :D High efficiency, low...
Hey!
I'm really curious how the power output can be achieved with cheap SFP modules or more integrated fiber optic switches, can it go over 1W of laser light? Maybe more advanced ones will output red, green or blue/violet light instead of IR?
Sorry but I bought this BR drive as "Not checked" on Polish auction site Allegro.pl and I think the seller doesn't send the package abroad. Flashlight and 1mW laser (for lens) I bought in department store, heatsink and driver is made by myself.
It costed me all about 10$ including Blu-Ray drive and flashlight and other stuff (lens, heatsink), and took me about 1 hour of time for putting this all together. I made boost driver by myself from scrap things.
A little project with scrap 780nm laser diode form CD burner :D I pressed the diode to metal pen and I can "write" on dark plastic, wood and gray cardboard :D. Diode is powered by LM317 set to 180mA.

Merry Christmas
rafalrrrr
I'll want to show you my burning laser harvested from Pioneer BDC-TD01 Blu-Ray combo drive. It outputs about 90mW. Driver is my own modified Joule Thief and it runs off 3,7V accu.

MERRY CHRISTMAS BTW ! :D
NO, rope is glued to metal heatsink under that, rope is for decoration. Yes you guessed I don't have safety glasses, they are too expensive but I'm using cheap sunglasses which protects my eyes too.
