    Focusing Flashlight Beam?

This is the kind of misinformation that spreads when you get your physics education from minute physics. Read this article: Refractive index - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Watch this video at 18:40. Laser Fundamentals I | MIT Understanding Lasers and Fiberoptics - YouTube

    Balloon Displays

Not with most of the lasers we have here. It would be possible if you focused a q-switched YAG inside the balloon, with sufficient power you could create a small spark capable of igniting the propane. Search Google for "ssy-1"

Uses for different Nd based wavelengths

I'm making a poster on Neodymium for my chemistry class. I'll be devoting a small section to Nd doped lasers, focussing on a few particular wavelengths. Specifically 355nm 473nm 532nm 589nm and 1064nm. What are some things I can say about each wavelength? 355nm is used in inertial...

    Micro USB Flash Drive?

That's why it would be good to make one with the lowest profile possible, if it was similar in size to the image above it would be much less likely to damage the port, even less likely than a standard charging cable. Charging cables protrude about 2cm where one of those would stick out only a...

    Micro USB Flash Drive?

Has anyone flirted with the idea of making a flash drive that plugs into a micro-USB port? It would be good for expandable storage for tablets that don't have a microSD slot (I'm looking at you, Nexus 7 :tsk: ). It would be even better if you could integrate it with one of those super tiny USB...

Advice On Building High Powered Lasers?

The optimal current varies depending on what diode you use. Search around for current vs power graphs for your particular diode. The highest power diode that you can really get is the M-140/A-140 445nm diode.

Advice On Building High Powered Lasers?

http://laserpointerforums.com/f65/33-reasons-not-buy-wicked-lasers-56289.html First of all, don't buy from Wicked Lasers. Secondly, you can buy powers up to around 2400mW online (assuming were talking about 445nm diodes) Finally, the diode and operating current determine a laser's intensity...

How do I focus a laser beam?

Use a convex lens (magnifying glass) to focus it. That infrared diode will also be unfocused.

    Technical Question - 555 nm

Because 532nm is cheap and easy. The closest we have (556nm) requires a bunch of fancy DPSS shenanigans, and thus is prohibitively expensive. 556nm handheld here.

I have these goggles, are they suitable for more than a watt of 445? I know that's what they say, but has anyone tested them?
