640nm DPSS portable - short review

I don't think this laser has been reviewed before. It's a 100mw 640 nm DPSS handheld from Dragon Lasers. I was curious about this laser because I have been looking for a while for a shorter wavelength red with good beam specs. Unfortunately all the high powered 635s are multimode with horrible...

    WTB: 12x >700mw

Looking for a high rep custom-builder to make/sell me a high quality 12x > 700mw for shipment to UK. Useage will be fairly light, so I'm prepared to risk a current at the higher end with good heat-sinking. Open-minded on the host, though a Kryton would be ideal. Must be focusable, with no...

    DPSS questions

Can anybody answer these questions (or any of them)? 1. Is the beam quality of DPSS lasers better than that of single diode lasers? If so, why? 2. Why did Nichia bother to invent the 405nm diode? Why not just frequency double the output from an 808 LD? 3. What is the size of the laser...

    50-100mw pen style focusable??

Can anyone point me towards a reasonably priced pen style 50-100mw green focusable? The usual suspects (DX, O-Like, Rayfoss) don't seem to have anything. Megagreen in the UK are the only stockists I have found, but at £125 (~ US$ 190) it's more than I want to pay. Alternatively, is there a...

    445 versus 473 visual comparison

I just fired up my 473 labby (65mw) to compare the output with my 445 custom daguin (570mw). I tried taking some pix, but the colours and brightness are not captured at all. All I get is bright white blobs. So old-fashioned words will have to do. Three things struck me: 1. The colours are...

Wanted: 635-642 high power single mode

I'm looking to buy or commission a single-mode high power focusable red in the 635-642 range (preferably at the 635 end). Any interested vendors or builders, please pm me. Thanks David

    Daguin custom 445

This is a brief review of my recently arrived Daguin 445 custom built. This is the spec as described by Daguin: "Up for sale, my first 445nm laser. This one has the 445nm diode harvested from a Casio projector. It has a Micro Boost driver. It comes with a 405-G-1 lens. It is housed on a Jayrob...

    CNI PGL-III-473-C 50mw

Bought this via Glenn in GB6, late last year. The review has been a long time coming for various tedious reasons. Anyway, I finally managed to do a run on my newly calibrated laserbee this morning. Results below: For this test I really pushed the unit. Ran it for a full six minutes and it got...

    Size of a focused spot

I was curious as to size of a focused spot. Does anybody know how to work it out (at least to a rough approximation)? I guess it must be limited only by diffraction, since the image size is effectively zero, but I can't find the answer anywhere. Thanks David

    Daguin custom-built Kryton 8X 470mw

Edit: I bought this item which was offered for sale by Daguin recently: The unit diode = 8X harvested from an LG (brand) BH08 (model) driver = flexdrive lens = 405-G-1 (Jayrob modification) host = Kryton Groove Focus adapter = Jayrob battery = 18650 (info as provided by Dave) Price and...

    Embedding images in post

Please can somebody talk me through this? I am able to upload images using the attachment manager, but I cannot get the images to embed in a post. If I am lucky they appear as thumbnails at the bottom. If I am unlucky (like today) I get nothing at all. I have tried the FAQ but I cannot...

    532 dot colour through goggles

I have a pair of Dragon orange/red goggles for working with my 532, 473 and 405 lasers. When I view a 532 spot through the goggles, then depending on the reflecting surface, sometimes the spot appears green and sometimes yellow. It seems random. Thus: Metalised aluminium ruler: green Glossy...

    O-Like 80mw 473nm Lab Unit

http://www.o-like.com/b2b_cpinfo.asp?id=1051 This is probably the cheapest high powered blue available anywhere. US$ 492 for the basic unit plus US$ 28 shipping to the UK. Less than US$ 500 for 80mw of 473 was something I could not resist. So what's the verdict? Shipping was no problem. Good...

Focusing dragon beam expander for minimum divergence

I have a Viper 125mw with a beam expander. My question is - how can I determine the correct setting for minimum divergence at infinity? There is nothing on the screw to show the correct setting. Is the only way to try it out or is there a more scientific technique? Many thanks David

    High power 635 ?

I own a lovely custom built 658 nm stingray built by Milos and outputting 270mw. However, I am now in the market for a reasonably priced high power (200+) 635nm. Preferably focusable. Pen or torch style (don't mind which). Can anybody point me in the right direction? Either to one of the...

    Deal Extreme 500mw "Firepoint" green

See DealExtreme: $599.00 FirePoint Green Laser Pointer Complete Kit (500mW) * EMS Express I bought this laser from DX earlier this year but have only just got round to reviewing it. The price is US$ 599 (inc. shipping) which includes various bits and pieces: batteries, charger, goggles...

    How do I post pics?

I'll be putting up a review shortly of the DX 500mw green "firepoint" unit, but I can't figure out how to post pictures. What's the secret? Thanks David
