    Laser Show 1.0

In my instance it's mostly about $$$ :-) I don't put on dedicated laser shows, but have started using them to augment existing venues, and the result is $$$. Multi thousand lumen LED packages that have become practical don't hurt either. The cool thing is the price drop in lasers as a...

    Osram 450 question

Well, if you want to get below room temperature ambient you really need TEC. Not that I know anything about 445 performance below 30c or so. I just use the Z-bolt heat sinks and an aggressive fan.

One Dumb Ass With Wicked Laser Ruins It For All Of Us

Completely beyond the laws of physics for this to happen. Even assuming the guy with the laser is using a gyro stabilized platform to keep a steady beam the helicopter movement would prevent a sustained burned. Next, I've yet to see a 445 burn anything beyond 20-30feet. You can light up a...

    So since these are legal

If you have to check air traffic control before shining your laser up in the sky you are likely living next to O'hare airport ;) If there's an airplane or helicopter flying low over head here's what you do; don't point your laser at it. Assuming you are out in the sticks somewhere or on a...

    So since these are legal

Cops in my city (michigan) will confiscate any laser pointer visible or in use in a public place. Period - no questions. There is no official ordinance - they'll take them anyways. Reading between the lines the intent of this is basically if they can see a laser pointer in public chances are...

Single Servo / Galvo hack: video

I mentioned in some prior threads about a 'hack' I make on cheaper projectors to force single plane scanning, and I have some examples. Basically I've been aquiring a box full of cheaper projectors, mostly buying them from other folks for parts because they are broke, or just can't use them...

    What the ****?

HeHe.... I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell as well :-)

power supply for a laser pointer

I'm assuming ozgur84 has a 'pointer module' with the usual driver stuffed in the back and spring mounted on the end. It doesn't sound like we're talking about a bare diode here. As per what LarryDFW said, I have a couple green ' pointer modules' I bought off E-bay that have been running fine...

    Knife edge vs. PBS

Something about line generator optics never seem quite 'right' to me. Just don't look as good as spinning mirrors. As per above, just get a PC fan and glue a shaft mounted mirror to the hub, and away you go.

Movies with actual lasers in them

Ditto on Manhattan project. As I recall it was 'out of budget', but Cameron wanted it so bad he ended up funding it from his own paycheck. I wonder if X-laser calls CGI lasers illegal if they don't have a CGI variance :D I re-watched the bar scene, and those sure look like laser scanners...

Movies with actual lasers in them

Gimme! As I recall, 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture' used HeNe's shot through a glass crystal for the photon torpedoes, and a green/blue Argon for sky scan effect over the Vger flyby. All of which required optical printers....but it was real lasers though :-)

Movies with actual lasers in them

Here's a fun topic I thought of: Name the oldest movie you can think of that has an actual laser in it. Or, just a movie with a sexy laser in it. By 'actual' laser I mean 'actual' laser - not special effect laser added post via animation, etc. For instance, 'Goldfinger' doesn't qualify...

Recommendations for a laser for light sculpture

Any laser will be plenty bright enough if you are viewing it close enough on axis, and you have even a small amount of smoke/fog. However, if people are viewing the beams perpendicular you will need something on order of 'The Myst' to be subjectively bright enough with low powered...aka 'cat...

Recommendations for a laser for light sculpture

Prices for fixed lasers really depends on color and wattage. Reds (650nm) are the cheapest and most common because these are used as DVD burners. A 200mW, 12volt module can be had for less than $30 (shipped) off Ebay and the last one I bought not only had a perfectly tight beam but has been...

    Osram PLTB450 observations

Aseq instruments. I'm just a bit astounded at the burn range of this combo.

    Osram PLTB450 observations

Got my Osram PLTB450 a few days ago from JTR's Laser Shop, and just now got around to playing with it. It's eventually going in a projector and I'm waiting for some heavier heat sinks to show up. Before I put it to actual work though might as well have some fun. Color wise I can't tell the...

Computer Controlled Laser Light Show Kit

Actually, that's a great idea. I see bunches of SD driven projectors for < $200. Not sure if they're servo or galvo driven (I suspect the former), but that's a start. At least for what I'm doing.

Computer Controlled Laser Light Show Kit

I've been trying to put together a mental list of what's needed for a DIY programmable projector, and still haven't figured it out. The Chinese have no problem selling inexpensive projectors with fairly sophisticated animations built in, so the question is what is required to program and load...

    Question about lasers.

'Photons'. :yh: They use 'protons' to heat up coffee at Fermilab.

    200mW 532nm VS 500mw 635nm

Raleigh scattering shouldn't enter into the equation in regards to specific spectra unless you're dealing with miles of atmospheric volume and lines of sight just as long. The CIE luminosity function that puts 555nm at the peak is also bantered about quite a bit in lighting forums to an almost...
