    Laser Heatsinks

You posted a duplicate topic in general. I responded with some good advice based on hands on experience with long run times and heat sink types. http://laserpointerforums.com/f44/heatsinks-runtime-91798.html

    Wickedlasers cracked down by fda!!!!!

I'll take serious issue with this statement. NOHD refers to the threshold at which possible skin or cornea damage can occur. The main hazard with which the FDA is concerned with is the glare distraction caused by laser light illuminating cockpits of aircraft at night due to the extreme...

    Wickedlasers cracked down by fda!!!!!

The FDA and customs is clearly still running in a mode where the primary problem is a flood of cheap, high powered DPSS greens from China. The laser 'meta' so to speak has shifted to much higher powered >1watt 445's that are increasingly being assembled domestically and the FDA clearly hasn't...

    Heatsinks and Runtime

I've been retrofitting a lot of 1watt and higher diodes into laser projectors and have more experience dealing with the thermal issues from the LED side. The *best* heatsinks by a significant design margin I've found are these guys from Zbolt. The biggest reason I like the Zbolt sinks is by...

    Wickedlasers cracked down by fda!!!!!

The FDA is primarily going after importers, right? Domestic sellers - less competition, right?

What power do you prefer indoors?

Going to state this again: It is not illegal to own a laser in the multiple wattage range, and it is not illegal to turn them on outside. It is *illegal* to do bad things with them such as pointing at aircraft, cars, the running back of a rival football team, etc. IMO, anybody dumb enough to...

U.S. Navy Deploys Its First Laser Weapon in the Persian Gulf

This. Plus, point defense projectile technology has been lagging over the decades, and while current kinetic kill systems like Phalanx have classified ranges there's a lot of rumbling they aren't up to task. Not the mention the environmental issues of firing a few thousand rounds of tungsten or...

    445 nm & Astronomy

As an ex amatuer astronomer I can tell you with certainty that any generic greenie in the 20-40mW works great for star pointing. Next choice is the common 200mW red. Both are cheap and common. Last choice is 445-450nm. By the time you hit visible power levels compared to the greenie you have a...

Does anyone sell any legit 200mw blue lasers?

I'm sure by 'blue' he means 445-450. Also given the fact he's 13 and emphasizing 'burning stuff' should have ended the thread right there.

U.S. Navy Deploys Its First Laser Weapon in the Persian Gulf

The prototype focuses the light from six solid-state commercial welding lasers on a single spot, Tend to indicate this is a big IR projector? I thought the military was looking closer at bigger, chemical pumped pulse lasers, but this may be a direction that's more feasible given it's off the...

Beware; the days of cheap 1mW reds have gone.

I gave up on the key chain pointers. Don't last..... I use one of these radiant thermal temp readers that look like a bar code scanners. They typically have a red laser in them for pointing, and the ones I've seen are < 5mW. Much easier on your thumbs and tougher to lose.

My up coming Burning Man project.

I just think it's a bad idea in general. A 2w DPSS green firing straight up at night is simply not that impressive from any distance. Need about a 20watt Argon in my opinion to do that with any type of drama. If it were me I'd do a mini Luxor; get a surplus big screen TV fresnel and stack a...

3D image in midair at last !? Adding 3rd dimension to laser scanner !

I can see this being really cool for high end concerts or theaters. Multiple projectors could create a very large and randomized starfield above the stage that would be pretty amazing. Also looks like a pretty good ozone generator, which could be good and bad.

    Why do we like lasers?

If you guys could have only been there back in the 80s when I was driving around with my 8mW HeNe on a 12volt cig lighter supply with my car having tinted windows and the general populace never seeing a live laser. The utter chaos we caused on rainy friday nights and unsuspecting crowds was...

    M462 in Reke projector / I likey a lot

Just got my 1.7W M462 from DTR and spent the afternoon retrofitting in one of my Reke Servo projectors already running a 1watt 445. Just to refresh, all my projectors are running in single axis only so they only do liquid sky safely above our sometimes big crowds. I already have half a dozen...

    2W M462 462nm Laser Diode

Will be purchasing some of these from DTR fairly soon now to upgrade my projectors. While the current 445/450 are pretty they are simply too violet for my tastes, and given they are projecting over busy crowds I need visibility. I run into the same problem with LEDs. For DJ lights I typically...

can a Digital LED driver be used as Laser Diode driver??

I have 450nm blues running in projectors for a couple years now off of LuxDrive BuckPucks (1000mA) with zero problems. The greater problem is DC/DC LED drivers are are rather rare beyond 1000mA without resorting to more essoteric flashlight drivers, and most of us want to drive blues much higher...

    Police Helicopters

A one watt 445 really doesn't have much visibility off axis out doors unless you are sufficiently viewing it on axis. Only on really humid nights does the beam stand out, and even then so it falls off dramatically after a few hundred feet (off axis). You simply aren't generating enough photons...

first laser reke 500g vs 500RGB

Post is a few months old, but what I do with Reke units to make them tolerable (and more legal) is disable the Y axis motor so the unit is entirely a flat scanner. This way it can be safely orientated over a crowd, and frankly looks better with a contant liquid sky. Servo/Stepper based units...

    Green Laser Pointer for Cat

I volunteer for a couple animal shelters, one of which has over 120 free roaming cats. Walk into the place with a laser pointer and you are instantly god. Cats do not perceive color and shapes the same way humans do. Their visual cortex and eye physiology is designed for light capture and...
