    ANOTHER tornado machine :D

So the electronics for this project has ended up being much more of a nightmare than I anticipated :( Those familiar with the Arduino will be aware that it's stock PWM frequencies are 490Hz and 970Hz. Running the fans off PWM directly turned out to be extremely noisy, basically to the point...

Looked at dot of laser engraver (1W 445nm)

Laser light is really no different to other light when it comes to power. A diffuse reflection of a 1W laser off wood from 10-15 feet is a LOT less light entering your eye than even a standard 40W lightbulb.

    Laser against fowl

Regardless of reason, a laser isn't going to do anything in this situation. Chances are the rooster will just get scared of the light and take off before anything would happen. Surely you have some equivalent of animal control you could report him to? Or even police for excessive noise.

    Laser against fowl

Why? No one is gonna support your animal abuse.

Pot mod possible on 1mw trio?

Most used to have pots in them, but nowdays they're made so cheaply that a pot is probably 1/4 the price of the entire laser, so cheaper to just leave it out. The components are also very low quality, and simply cannot handle being modded anymore.

    "Free energy" bullshit.

My definition of free energy is basically energy that can be created without any other energy input .. ie, impossible, thus anything labelled as "free energy" automatically triggers the "avoid at all costs, unless you're in for a laugh" response :p To be fair though, things like solar panels...

Filter Capacitors Question: For the Hardcore Electronics Geeks!

I'd highly recommend against those direct mains driven "power supplies" except for very low current, highly insulated products, like LED nightlights etc. A big LED array like that with a huge metal heatsink on it, running direct on mains is just asking for trouble. Just buy a proper LED driver :)

    "Free energy" bullshit.

Not too worried about it, once they turn around and say it can't be done then they're gonna have the worlds largest pie on their face (and by that I mean a Simon-grade, slime pie) :D

    "Free energy" bullshit.

All the free energy vids on Youtube make for a good laugh :D

    ANOTHER tornado machine :D

From basically a couple days before I started this thread, and I'm still going on it :) Mostly waiting on stuff from China. I ordered some more ultrasonic foggers which seem to have gone missing in the post, so they've had to resend them, so it's gonna be sitting around waiting for another...

What kind of laser person are you?

    I know a bit ... but I can't even remember the last time I touched a laser. Where's that option? :p

    D i v e r g e n c e

The size of the active die area does determine the minimum spot size you can achieve, but in the case of our canned diodes it's usually quite tiny. You can focus an LED to a much narrower beam vs say, an incandescent globe for this reason.

    Quick voltage question!

No, you just limit it to 250mA of current, voltage takes care of itself. As long as your input voltage is higher than the diodes Vf + the dropout of whatever regulator you're using. In the case of red diodes, their Vf is around 3V or so. Around 5V for blue, and green (direct green, not DPSS)...

    ANOTHER tornado machine :D

Controller is coming along nicely :) Hopefully I'll get my extra foggers tomorrow and I can do a video on it :)

    ANOTHER tornado machine :D

Installed a water reservoir and pump, as well as a fill port :D Just waiting on some float switches so the fogger tank can automatically keep itself topped up. Also did a bit more painting .. at his point it's basically just the electronics and a proper backing that need completing :D

Lasers - Possible use as a Distress Signal?

Dunno about you, but I wouldn't call 5km "far". Could just yell someone down at that distance ;) Sure given enough power it might be visible from a good distance away, but we're talking about pointers, not 40W laserscopes :)

Pointer to operate under freezing conditions

Basically anything using a direct diode and decent batteries should be able to handle it fine. I'd stick with low power red though to avoid giving the dog eye damage.

my laser cutter and i made quesadillas

Toast doesn't work very well, BTW :D Pies do though ...

Lasers - Possible use as a Distress Signal?

Only if you're looking down the beam, it's not very visible at all from a distance otherwise.
