After 6 days, new laser is now a flashlight

Huh! I actually have some tape exactly like that. I got it because it was supposed to be wrapped around threads of water pipes before joining them together. Supposed to prevent leaking. When I threaded the pipes together, the tape shredded right off. Is it supposed to do that? Is there...

After 6 days, new laser is now a flashlight

I'm not home right now, but maybe when I get the chance, I'll take the lens barrel out again and see if there's still a spring in there. I know for sure there never was one between the heatsink and focusing ring. When I removed the lens barrel the first time, I made sure to keep the host...

After 6 days, new laser is now a flashlight

Is the purpose of that spring simply to keep the heatsink from wobbling around? From what I'm understanding so far, that's the case. But I ended up putting a thin rubber shim between the side of the heatsink and the inside of the host this morning. That seems to be holding it tight now and...

After 6 days, new laser is now a flashlight

I sure hope that little spring isn't too important because I never saw one. Hopefully, it remained attached to wherever it was and I just didn't notice it.

After 6 days, new laser is now a flashlight

I guess great minds think alike! But I did end up getting everything all back together again and working right. When I was about to give up, I figured I had nothing more to lose, so I unscrewed the top portion of the host, took out the heatsink that was rattling and put a very thin...

After 6 days, new laser is now a flashlight

Got it done. Thanks! I ended up with about 3.5 hours of sleep. :tired:

    SciFi Lasers SF501b blue 445nm 1.5--1.8W

No offense taken. But trust me, I took a lot of precautions so it took me quite awhile to do these correctly and safely. Eye protection was used too of course. I would have done something like this with something lower powered, but I don't have anything else. As for burning--I actually feel...

After 6 days, new laser is now a flashlight

You mean on the threaded part? How about using Lock-tite? Would that have the same affect? The idea is to keep the 2 parts together, right? I had originally inserted a paperclip between the ring and the flat silver surface to keep the focus from turning so easily. The paperclip has gone...

After 6 days, new laser is now a flashlight

Look at the picture OVNI posted. That's the part. But on mine, the ring portion became separated from the cylinder portion. I have them back together now. I didn't realize turning the ring is supposed to turn the cylinder to focus the laser. Since they separated, there was no longer any...

After 6 days, new laser is now a flashlight

That's ok, it doesn't appear that the lens is missing after all. I scoured the floor looking for it, but it was never missing. Since the ring came off and then putting it back on resulted in having a "blue flashlight", I had assumed there was a lens behind the ring part. Now I learned that...

After 6 days, new laser is now a flashlight

Yeah, that's it, except the ring portion came completely off the threaded cylinder part. When I screwed it back in, it wouldn't focus anymore. Then I discovered that they were supposed to stay together and turn together to focus. Since they came apart, the ring part turned by itself. I...

After 6 days, new laser is now a flashlight

I just received my SF501b 1.5--1.8W laser from Scifi lasers and now the focusing ring came off and when I put it back on, the only light that comes out is similar to a flashlight. I only had it for 6 days and now it's not shining like a laser anymore. FWIW, that focusing ring needs to be...

I'm taking requests for more pics like the ones above!

    SciFi Lasers SF501b blue 445nm 1.5--1.8W

I just wanted to amend my review with a couple more videos that I thought would be helpful. I had originally stated that the beam on my laser couldn't be seen during the daytime. I should point out that it was sunny that day. Now we've finally had an overcast day with some light rain. I...

    Sci-Fi Lasers 501B 445nm 2-2.4W

The price for the laser being discussed is $129.99. You can go to this site: SF501B 445nm Blue and then select 2W--2.4W as the version. Then you'll see that price. It's a great price too! Other manufacturers will charge quite a bit more for a laser at that power level.

    SciFi Lasers SF501b blue 445nm 1.5--1.8W

Re: My review of the SciFi Lasers SF501b 1.5--1.8W I'm glad you like the pictures! They're probably better than the videos anyway. Other members have produced far more superior videos. I don't know if it's my camera or if it's just me.

    SciFi Lasers SF501b blue 445nm 1.5--1.8W

You might be disappointed to know that the items in order from left to right are: A flip-phone cell phone that cost me $5 and will be obsolete at the end of this year, a white ball point pen, a silver mini-mag flashlight (AA), and an upside down eyeglasses case.

    SciFi Lasers SF501b blue 445nm 1.5--1.8W

Here’s my review of the Sci Fi Lasers SF501B 445nm blue 1.5—1.8W laser. It’s my first review so I hope I end up doing a good job of it. I ordered it on Feb. 27th and it was shipped on March 9th and I received it on April 1st. So, a month and 3 days. Placing the order was pretty simple and...

    Just ordered a 1W 501B from sci-fi!

Skype? You'd have to help me with that too! :) Never done it before! Maybe you could do a video for youtube. You said it takes about an hour. Maybe you could do a video in 4 parts. But I imagine having to explain everything you're doing (especially to a novice) would increase the time...
