That's not quite true.. I've been able to touch the clouds with 100mW.. they were low clouds, maybe 100' up, but I could see the spot on the bottom of the clouds very clearly. Even with massive power you still need an overcast day with thick, low clouds.

RGB: 2:1:2 gives a great white. You can almost never have too much red though..

Steppers do work.. slowly and awkwardly compared to galvos, but they do work. That said, IMO you will quickly regret going with steppers over galvos. Then you'll spring for the galvos, which will mean you're in for the cost of both the steppers and galvos. I'd just save up for the galvos.
