    Recommend a PC for me

Yeah, just the RAM and a low-grade new discrete video card should do wonders for that system. Oh, and an SSD if there is any extra money. Makes old computers new again!

    Recommend a PC for me

At that budget, the best you'll be able to do is probably a NUC or something around that price. Maybe look for an old used computer.

    365nm UV flashlight danger ?

I doubt it provides that much protection, but it might affect how we perceive the color balance of light. I think there have even been attempts to factor that into CIE-type color model.

    365nm UV flashlight danger ?

Well, until you get cataract surgery and lose some of the yellowed lens that filters out the wavelengths.

NUBM06 More fun than a beer soaked slobber knocker.

I know you like this SANWU lens now, but you should've left the old messages up on your old G-ball thread for posterity and maybe just linked to the new lenses you're interested in.

Laser cloak could hide Earth from extraterrestrial beings

I guess so. Honestly, I think that's a pretty cheesy research paper, falling into the "yeah, but so what?" category for me.

    The amazing gball

I'll definitely need to get my cylindrical pair setup with my lasers, though I've mostly concentrated on getting those 638nm reds corrected since they're usually the limiting color channel.

    The amazing gball

I'll have to try and measure the divergence on mine. I don't think I have the G-ball, but I do have some G9 lenses and others. With the 638nm lasers depending on where I had the lens focuses I could cause one axis to expand faster than the other only because one axis would converge to a...

    The amazing gball

They still might truncate the beam if it provides a consistent beam pattern though as compared to something like a G2 type pattern with all the emitter artifacts. It would help create a consistent pattern and reduce the number of artifacts for the projected image. It'd be kind of like those...

    The amazing gball

Are you sure it's not just truncating the sides of the beam like those "long focal length" lenses? It looks like the sides are rounded as if it were being blocked on the sides of a rounded aperture.

Can eyes be damaged without flash blindness?

Yeah, you'll really "know it" if you get blasted by your laser in a dangerous manner. It'll be extremely bright and envelop your entire field of view in a flash blinding light. Your eyes could also be stressed from working in dim light, or even from wearing the goggles if they block out too...

    The amazing gball

Huh... I'll have to experiment with that myself. Pretty darn cool!

    The amazing gball

But I mean, is the gball sufficient to just not bother with any other lenses? I thought the problem with some of these lenses that came with the diode blocks was that they were "optimized" for just creating a big wall of light, not so much a nice beam. The gball could be just making the output...

    The amazing gball

Hmm, does this mean that if we just leave the diode attached to the cylinder with the Gball that it'll produce a pretty good collimated beam? What's the divergence on it?

Hey all, quick "color blocking" idea!

Maybe post a picture of what you're imagining. You can also look into some reflective coating glass to make it harder to see your eyes. It might capture the effect while not forcing you to look through color-filtered glass.

    The Nootropics Thread

Thanks Ultron! I think your signature looks even cooler now now too.

    The Nootropics Thread

Hey Ultron, that signature is kind of annoying. It creates a horizontal scrollbar on my screen at my normal screen res. Can you reduce its size or something, please?

    The Nootropics Thread

Maybe look at nicotine? This doesn't mean taking up smoking or vaping all the time, but you can use it judiciously for positive reinforcement in a feedback loop when doing certain tasks. Eventually, you may not even need that "magic feather" at all.

    The Nootropics Thread

I've never had any noticeable effect when using 5-HTP. Supposedly, it is no good without other precursors, but I haven't bought those to try them out. More recently, and anecdotally, I've been taking about 1.5g of piracetam right before going to bed and I've been having some pretty good, vivid...

    NUBM08E the new 9-10 watter

I'll take both, but I really want more power density, which means a tighter beam. These high-powered diodes aren't exactly known for quality beams, so a lot of corrective optics have to be used to make them into actual "beams." Imagine if they were like those 637nm 2-beam abominations.
