I've seen the light, and the light is white.

Hey guys, I just recently picked up a batch of large argon lasers. Spectra physics 164/165/168's One of the lasers was particularly interesting. Here's a couple shots: I was especially excited when I fired the laser up. Here is what I found... Note the color of the plasma that's right...

    Gooeygus?

thanks for the support guys. My great grandfather passed away a few weeks ago and I've just been super busy with the aftermath. I've been at his house as much as possible trying to clean out all his old stuff and get everything squared away. So my schedule has been: work, work on cleaning...

just picked up a gas laser.

yup -35 is mixed gas. Lucky you... now see if she fires up!

Attention multi-line argon, krypton, or mixed-gas owners!

CD's are pretty decent, they just cant handle big power. Maybe I'll get myself one of these :D

Gas Lasers? Tell me about them please :)

get yourself a 1W IR diode... you can probably find one for $50 If you want a gas laser, it's a bit more difficult. HeNe's only go up to a few mW's max (I think the strongest was close to 200mW). CO2 lasers are great, but I dont think they make anything as low as 1W. Usually a 10W will be the...

Need pin out for Ent II ArIon

Hey Mike I didn't see your PM until just now, feel free to give me a call 425-220-4622 Jason

    Who here is feeling gassy?

I don't think so, but I don't think i've ever diffracted the beam at full tilt. I think the highest I got was like 28A and it started melting the (very robust) holographic disc we were using to split the lines.

I guess I just want something to really split the beam up. Prisms are great but the line hardly spreads out. Whenever I use a diffraction grating on my 168 the diffracted lines are so weak because 90% of the power is still making it through in the main beam. I want something that completely...

    Who here is feeling gassy?

Yup! It's more blue at idle, and as you go up it shifts more to the green side. Pretty neat!

    "Homemade" 7W CO2 laser

ZVS?? I have a 10W tube that needs a power supply.... please elaborate!! :D

Need pin out for Ent II ArIon

Still waiting for pictures! Cant wait to find out if she fires up or not!:D

Gas Lasers? Tell me about them please :)

Just ignore me... I shouldn't be allowed to post past 10pm :shhh:

Gas Lasers? Tell me about them please :)

I didn't say that diode lasers cant have good divergence, I was just saying that when you compare the lasers, apples to apples (bare cavities, no optics) the gas laser will always win

Another He-Ne question = AC tube??

Just curious, where did you get the variable HV power supply? :eg: I need one...

Attention multi-line argon, krypton, or mixed-gas owners!

pictures!!! Does it split it just into the individual lines or do you get a whole bunch of lines out of it? I want a grating that has a 'prism' effect, but that spreads the lines a bit wider from each other than a prism

Need pin out for Ent II ArIon

    any luck?

    Who here is feeling gassy?

probably like 5W or so, I think I was at 25A-28A

    Is this a CO2 laser?

It doesn't really matter... you could always just swap the mirrors to change it, but most of the SP lasers are set up such that they lase from the cathode.
