    Bare Minimum (laser harp) Scanner?

Servos are waaaaayyyyyyy too slow unfortunately. If steppers aren't going to cut it, then your only other options are galvos, or possibly you could get a polygon scanner to do it (although will have the streaked line option as you've said earlier)

I Am Not A Smart Man

For your questions: Each laser unit will vary, so they could be under or overspec. However when you're talking about eye damage, it really doesn't take much, so it's pretty irrelevant. With all laser shows, the absolute best way to use them, unless you've got the ability to do attenuation...

    Quadcopter Builds

450mm diagonal motor to motor, yes. Go with the smaller packs, if the 6Ah ends up being too heavy you're not at a loss then.

    Anyone else excited? *Astronomy event*

I'm over the summer, bring on winter :D

    Quadcopter Builds

Nice :D Did a flight time test on the Turnigy quad today. On a 5Ah pack it seems to get about 15 minutes, not doing anything too aggressive. A 5Ah pack is probably on the verge of a bit too big for this size quad though, so you could probably get a bit longer with a lighter battery. Has no...

    Help with LM317 laser driver

No, because you are current limiting, the forward drop of the diode is the highest voltage you'll see.

    Quadcopter Builds

I can't remember exactly right now, but from memory go into the Func Setting menu, scroll across to the 2nd "screen", and there's a setting there called AUX CH or something. You can choose what channels are mapped to what, by default they don't do anything.

    Quadcopter Builds

Well, no point adding additional power circuitry when you can just take it from the ESC's :) The 9x is kind of designed around a regular plane transmitter, so some terminology is a bit different to heli/multicopters. For example, pitch is called elevators, roll is ailerons, and yaw is rudder...

    Quadcopter Builds

A BEC is a Battery Eliminator Circuit, does exactly what the name suggests and means you don't need a separate RX battery. Most ESC's come with BEC's built in, either a UBEC, which is just a linear regulator, or a SBEC, switching. ESC's labelled "OPTO" don't include a BEC at all. The reason...

    Quadcopter Builds

If it hovers well then you don't have to worry about the ESC's response, I wouldn't expect you'd have to re-flash anything to get it off the ground, being a complete product, vs the SK450 which is a more "hobby", I guess. I was disappointed with it out of the box too, but after flashing it flies...

    Drones

Also confusing as hell. I don't have a head tracker yet but just the goggles alone is a crazy experience.

    Quadcopter Builds

Some of the cheaper quads have a button on the TX that'll allow you to do a flip, but you'll want access to acro mode to do any 3D flying. Acro mode works a fair bit differently to the regular stabilize/self leveling mode, so make sure you have a nice big open area before you try it :p ESC's...

Laser engraving services for personalized gifts?

I could do it for you, but I'm in Australia, so bar shipping costs, I think customs would be an issue. Alternatively give MarioMaster on here a PM, he has a laser engraver. There's probably a few others in the US on this forum.

    Quadcopter Builds

Riiigghtt, where to start. Well, I got the SK450 quad today, and, well, it's pretty bad ... For a start, the really nice looking box has just been cut up and folded up inside out and used as the main packaging. I thought the idea was you could use it as a transport box? Oh well, minor thing ...

    Quadcopter Builds

You'll find when you go to a larger quad they're a lot more stable, so learning to fly on a smaller one is great for getting your skills up. Of course the downside of a larger one is it hits harder when you crash :p Should get my SK450 quad hopefully tomorrow, but it's pretty windy and will be...

    Quadcopter Builds

The dropping while pitch/rolling can be fixed, but you need to be able to access the mixer on either the controller board, or the transmitter. Not sure a cheap TX would have a mixer though.

    Lasers on my Quadcopter

It's a WLtoys V222, though it's sold under a few different names. Mine is from here: 4 Channel Quadcopter with Flip Control - Jaycar Electronics

    Lasers on my Quadcopter

Hmm yeah, seems to be quite different, even though everything else is identical.

    Lasers on my Quadcopter

Are you just connecting them to the original LED headers on the PCB? These little quadcopters have a button on the back left of the transmitter that can trigger extra addon modules, if you look at the PCB it has headers for sprayers/winches etc. You could use one of these to switch a laser on...

    Anyone capable of metal spinning?

I'll have to do some testing once I build myself a prototype version to determine what ontime and BPS rates I can get away with. I'll be going with an external panel mount fuse, vs an internal fuse on the original, so even if you accidentally set the ontime too high, just pop a new fuse in. It's...
