No, for a 445 it is the wrong driver to use if you are looking to get full power. Plain and simple. The driver does exactly what it is supposed to do. Nothing horrendous about its operation. Fake edit: I forgot, you're the "don't use linear drivers" guy... :tinfoil:

I don't think the word "horrendous" is the word you are looking for here :crackup: Maybe, "cannot put out 1.8A" would be more appropriate...

Thanks guys. :) I used a Cannon PowerShot SX110 IS. Not super fancy, no removable lenses or anything like that, but you can control the shutter and stuff a bit. 15 second exposure... It's a longest it would let me take.

Yeah, I don't know, it was still pretty early. The street light was out, so that's good. I cropped out the neighbor's house lights on the bottom, but you can see the lights in the background lighting up the sky.

When I was outside tonight, I saw Jupiter and Venus right next to each other up in the sky. I thought it would make a pretty cool picture if I fired a laser up toward them. I think it turned out pretty good. I might have to start doing more of this sort of thing.

Your wiring diagram looks good. 456mA will melt that laser diode though. While that might be pretty cool, I imagine that it's probably not the outcome you're looking for. ;) Do you have any specs for that particular diode? See if the seller listed the operating current. If it is rated at 5mW...
