I suspect they rate these based on the first 60 seconds of testing or something like that. Since these seem to like it warm, you're never gonna get the true potential from a short run like that.

Just to save the slightest amount of money. These companies are all about meeting a price point, and if it saves a buck or two they'll cut corners on critical parts. I mean how else do they put out a 445nm burning laser for like $34 shipped? Not by using quality parts, that's for sure.

Acrylic lens which will probably melt over time. Nothing like products which are automatically garbage without consumer modification.

Your best strategy is to post them on ebay and lie about the output. Just do what the Chinese do and say "Super bright burning <1mw laser" or something like that. Buyers will figure out by the description and price that the laser is FAR from 1mw.

Last I checked, it hovered at a bit less than 200mw on full power. It seems that the output has fallen a bit over the years, but the beam specs are still very good.

Way back in 2008ish I spent $1300 on a new RPL-300. That was back when a 300mw green laser was damn near the best you could hope to have.

Here in America you don't even need a license to own a .50 bmg rifle. I believe the answer is to punish the hell out of the idiots, rather than to penalize law abiding gun/laser owners.
