I ordered a 589nm Aurora GLP-589 from Dragon that's rated at 5mW just a few moments ago. I'm excited! This bad boy is gonna play cameos when I teach my classes! The Spartan needed a little brother lol I'll be sure to update you guys when it gets here! :D :D :D

Man that is impressive! I've got a Spartan 50 that will do almost 100mW on a good day. I was figuring I could hope for about double the rated 5mW from the Aurora too. Jeez! If I get a consistent 7-8 out of mine I'll be good to go! Anything more than that is just icing on the cake. :)

I've been in the hobby since pointers where literally all we had, and ones that could do 200mW where the newest, most cutting edge tech. This is also the time frame when I stopped being really active lol. Its just the paradigm that I'm used to. I honestly don't think I could enjoy the lasers...

I've got a Nitecore i2. Even with that charger, all of my batteries up to this point are protected. Do you guys think that that charger would be safe to use with unprotected batteries?

Does anyone have any experience with the Ultrafires? THey're the only halfway legitimate looking option I've found and I'm not sure if they're worth it.

The only ones that I can find are the 600 mah Ultrafire batteries. Is there a metric designation for which I could search? They're also unprotected, which does not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling when putting them into expensive, rare, and in one case a decade old, lasers. Any advice would...

Your observation on the brightness of the 594 is about what I recall from mine, before I pot modded it that is. ;) I'm almost certainly going to go with a GLP-589 just because of availability and cost. I really want a 594 though, but it doesn't feel like a sure thing like the 589 would be.
