Need Help in Soldering? For Beginners - Solder & Flux 101

Yes, Yes, I highly recommend solder flux when working with eutectic solder. The flux in the solder isn't enough in many cases. I would strongly recommend water based flux like pen below as it contains a fast evaporating alcohol that drys the solder area out quickly so that the area is able to...

    Help need to identify TTL ( + ) and ( - ) ...

Boy this driver looks very familiar. I believe I had one of these back in 2010, to drive a 300mW LPC826 (660nm). The fellow selling them was from Seoul. As stated above the method of using a DMM to find the TTL polarity is what I used back in the day. So I recommend following this.

    "C" battery modification

Very nice modification, it makes me wonder if once could make a 26650 out of smaller Li-ion cells. 26650 cells in Canada are virtually non-exsistant due to the amount of lithium present and Hazmat fees.

Going out to survey a few of BC's Uranium deposits

perhaps.. Not sure when I will get more time as I am just starting work at a new school. I am teaching MPY design this year and Env.Sci 12. It's going to be busy. I do however plan at some point to do, if permitted, a roundhounding trip with my grade 12 students, if I can squeeze it in at...

Going out to survey a few of BC's Uranium deposits

I'm reasonably certain that none of these samples would fluoresce under SW/LW UV. The only minerals in the area that would fluoresce would be scheelite, this being found much further east. (80Km -100Km E from Brenda mines)

Going out to survey a few of BC's Uranium deposits

Here is a group of photos that are related to each other. This happens to be from my rest stop near the Brenda Mines property. The samples shown here are of Quartz molybdenite veins showing. Inside the black grey vein are what I think might be some mackinawite, along with marcasite, pyrite...

Going out to survey a few of BC's Uranium deposits

I will post a picture of the deposit.. nothing amazing... but I will get a picture of the samples as well. Also, hit Brenda mines on the way to Burnaby, about 22Km west outside of Peachland. I managed to find a band of the old deposit on the side of the highway near to the turnoff to the open...

Going out to survey a few of BC's Uranium deposits

Well, I have had a rather interesting time going to find the deposits. I tried 3 deposits over the last 3 days. One was found at Idabel lake, at 4050ft elevation. Pictures coming shortly. The deposits are spread all over the kettle valley regional district but many appear to surficial. I had my...

    Soldering thread

This coming school year I get to be the head of MYP design at a new international school in town, manage a makerspace and teach soldering skills! I will be showcasing some projects my students build. I am looking forward to posting more content. We are also going to build some lasers! That...

Going out to survey a few of BC's Uranium deposits

Hello, its been a long time since I have posted on LPF, its been a hell of a summer for a variety of reasons which I will explain in another post. I needed a break, so I decided to take a 3 day trip to the interior of BC. Our trip takes us through Oliver BC, and Skaha lake which just so happens...

    Super solder

Wow! looks like an interesting material. I'll have to see if they are up for getting out some samples soon. :)

    (A) Mineral phosphorescence

Looks to me like Scapolite, although, hard to tell from just a photograph. It could also be a form of massive fluorite with Calcite. Again, I am shooting from the hip here. What color does it fluoresce? Red/pink? Those short wave bulbs require a UV bandpass filter, not woods glass to...

    New high power Rocket launch

I am working on getting some videos from our parents. No video onboard as we didn't have time to get the camera to work. That's out second major issue. The cameras we had crapped out and corrupted their own firmware. I suspect the internal memory on them is flaky.

    New high power Rocket launch

So, I managed to solve the issue with the sold state relay, and this past Saturday we fired 2 new rockets. We had a group of parents with their kids come to the launch site to watch the launch. This rocket went nearly 3500ft at around 1100Km/hr. The launch system is back up and running...

What South Koreans think of North Korea

Yes, I heard this too. I saw a detailed explanation by KBS and YTN news and the other side on DPRK KCTV.

What South Koreans think of North Korea

hmm, well I agree that all the factors must come together to bring this moment to the forefront. The current series of events have been started by ROK and the DPRK alone. Remember that the US still needs to sign the Treaty of Panmunjeom to bring a full closure to the conflict. I sure hope that...

What South Koreans think of North Korea

JongUn (given name) Kim (family name), is no master of the universe to the outside world, however he is a leader and an icon to his people. We may not understand him or get Jucheism that makes the DPRK different from the rest of the world, however we do need to give credit to (Marshall)JongUn...

What South Koreans think of North Korea

I would say that it might be Russia's current aggressiveness that actually prompted the sudden switch in attitude. Remember that Russia controls a narrow patch of land to the N.E of the country, Khasan. Russia is doing everything right now to take as much land possible that would be strategic...
