    Solved issue.

It could be a reflection from a metallic lens holder? I get sideways splash on a couple of my lasers that have 3-element lenses

    Hi from Silicon Valley, CA

Oof - Missed your post too - Welcome :) Hope you have a good time here. Stay safe - loosely attached mirrors and by the looks of it quite strong lasers are a bad mix if you're not protecting your eyes properly.

    m140 driver

I think some members have run banks of many diodes in series before - Don't quote me on that, but you may be able to reduce the number of drivers by ganging up multiple diodes together.

    Laserlands 520nm 5mW, comparison with 532nm?

On second sight of it - I believe that my eyes were being confused by the drastic difference in intensity of my two greens - Defocused and pointed at a distant wall I can very clearly see the difference now. 520 is a much "greener" green to my eye :)

First build! + colour changing diode??

It's a TS100 temperature controlled DC powered soldering iron, with a crappy cheap switch-mode power supply giving it 19.5VDC. There's no grounded tip unless you add a ground wire (which solves the problem when it's not fallen off...) to a screw on the iron's handle. It's not half of the Mains...

Forum - major release upgrade today

Facebook style "reactions" instead of likes as well? Icons/Smilies/Emojis look like the complete unicode set now :)

First build! + colour changing diode??

What I thought was initially ESD - and then later discovered it to be an intermittently grounded soldering iron tip - I measured 65V AC between the tip and ground with a painful amount of current leaking through. I've yet to kill a diode from overdriving it - but I've killed one from that dodgy...

    Sanwu Lasers - Offical thread

Sanwu's lasers are not CE certified. CE is less relevant here - if EU customs inspectors disposed of every product not marked with the correct CE marking, then millions of tonnes of imported products would be thrown away at customs every year. There's a decent chance that it'll get through -...

Thought this bit of laser science was pretty sweet...

Going to take a lot more successful net-gain testing to convince me laser confinement fusion is the way forwards - but it's definitely interesting to see a group doing this separately from NIF. I'm putting my "money" on advanced magnetic confinement (Stellerators & Tokamaks) and the slightly...

    Sanwu Lasers - Offical thread

Did you order it with batteries in the package? If you did there's a higher chance it'll get caught - but I'd not worry. Usually stuff stays in customs for 12-24h before it passes onto the local carrier.

Retroactively wishing you a safe flight Alaskan :)

    Laserlands 520nm 5mW, comparison with 532nm?

it's marginal to me with a 520 next to a 532, but it's a bit more yellowy. Definitely too close to be able to tell without a side by side comparison of colour.

    Laserlands 520nm 5mW, comparison with 532nm?

There's not a lot of colour difference between 532 and 520. You won't be able to tell by eye unless they're side by side and even then it's tricky. One other way to tell if it's a diode 520 or a 532 is to inspect the spot shape and size, as DPSS 532nm lasers tend to have better beam specs but...

First build! + colour changing diode??

Have now completed this with the correct diode - Thanks to Jordan who sent out a new PL520B in an order of some other bits I had placed. It's a mess inside - but I'm awaiting some spare pills and I've been promised some lathe-time on a colleague's lathe to face down and bore out the...

    Donating to LPF

I think the yellow sticker under the name is tied into the autopay system built into the new forum software - so it should do Not sure if Avery has any sway to manually turn those kind of stickers on/off :p

    Hello from Munich, Germany

Welcome Wolfgang :) Absolutely brilliant intro thread - Don't worry about every detail in the do's/dont's. You'll be fine! Very nice travel photos on your blog, quite an impressive set.

    What's your favorite Pokemon?

Hi SnowUO - Just saw that this and one about hair-dye were your first two posts - It's good etiquette here to post an introduction in the Welcome subforum, with your rough Location in the title, along with some stuff about yourself and your interests. What got you interested in lasers etc? If...

    Sell thread,host and laser,405nm ,450nm,638nm

Really like the look of those stainless steel ones in your last post Trinh - Perfect pocketable "EDC" size - Better than my current plan for one which uses tiny batteries (10280). The stainless steel ones - will they take a 12mm module with the heatsink entirely enclosed? I.e. no copper...

Ran across this publication from Sharp..

Dodgy direct translation and overly happy little dudes is definitely pretty funny :) A good introductory set of slides by the looks! Edit: Definitely behind stickying this. A simplified useful resource for new people I think.
