Building a orange (613nm) Laser from scratch with off-the-shelf parts (and for cheap!)

This is very cool :) FIRST, I'm not knocking this. It is very well done and it screams awesome. Only thing I would be concerned with is total cost. By the time you buy the diode and the TEC and milled casings and pump and other bits, it could push the price toward where another option might be...

Hello all! New here, Just got around to an intro..

If you haven't looked at Lumia wheels, that may appeal to you also. Some very cool effects can be done with any laser and a Lumia wheel or two. Also the polymer water balls (the kind that get 50x bigger in water overnight) have very beautiful effects when you shine a laser through them...

love the host - not so sure about the scotch tape 🤔

First build, assembled, not turning on

For your quick reference, here is an ULTRA cheap red 650 diode at a couple hundred mw with a no brainer AM7135 driver that cost about $10 bucks to assemble. I put this together a few months back. It lights up the entire table when it is on and will easily burn black trim on the table. Look at...

    638nm vs 660nm - color compare

My 635 and 633 lasers look way more orange to me than the 650-660 diode lasers I have. Still red but with a slight orange tint. Some people are much more sensitive to color variance than others. Also the 635 is more sensitive to the human eye, so it is perceived as brighter also. "Most"...

Looking for 510 vaping module (standard 12mm module)

Jordan at DTR still has the heat sink heads for these, however the screw on bottom 510 part is almost impossible to find. https://sites.google.com/site/dtrslasershop/home/22mm-510-threaded-modules The last few 510 threaded bottoms I bought from Lifetime will not thread on the DTR heads...

Hello all! New here, Just got around to an intro..

This is the first year in 10 that we won't make it. I currently am housebound due to medical issues. If you can't go to SELEM, read everything you can on here and ask questions on what you don't understand. This hobby dovetails in nicely with several others as I'm sure you have seen. Maybe...

Why are all the good posts so old?

We are in the middle of NASCAR country. I rekeyed Jimmie Johnsons' home. Although he wasn't there at the time. Actually only lives about a mile from me. Most celebrities have "people" that do the appts and meet others. For a while I was rekeying some of the NASCAR shops in Mooresville, NC where...

Why are all the good posts so old?

If you open safes as part of your job, you will find that they rarely have anything in them. However, the very first safe I drilled and opened in Texas was full of stuff. Silver spurs, Guns, old coins, money, medals and an antique gold Hamilton pocket watch. The gentleman I opened it for was...

    Reliable red dot laser module?

Personally without spending much money, I would go with something like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/363309565716?hash=item5496f00714:g:NicAAOSwgKpgPeQN They are probably not the most reliable (who knows), but they are cheap to replace and very small. They are also 635nm instead of 650nm, so...

    The batteries' struggle

I still like this site when searching for any battery: http://batteries.parametrek.com/index.html?size=18350 mah determine how long it will run. discharge rate is really only important if the driver draws a high current, but most good batteries will handle them. too low a discharge...

Why are all the good posts so old?

yup and most cuts on keys only vary typically by 15 thousandths of an inch (.015") But, I'm very sorry for going so far off topic  Please excuse the tangent! Re: Good Posts - I'm sure Covid has also messed with the lives of many people and what they spend time doing, laser forums...

Why are all the good posts so old?

Lock picking was a VERY small part of being a locksmith! I worked on vaults and safes. I worked on alarm systems, I worked on locks and keys. I have done work for all the 3 letter government groups, in addition to making keys for most types of cars. I have done work at celebrities homes and...

Why are all the good posts so old?

lasers are one of the most influential technologies ever created. Also unique in that it is truly man made, not occurring in nature. I don't know that I would call it useless. I spent 30 years as a top locksmith, now retired/disabled. not sure which is more fun. :)

    Favorite Laser Pointer Uses

I had wooden pendulum clock a few years ago. I painted the numbers and hands with GITD paint. Then when it was too dark to see it, I would use the 405 on a wide beam to see what time it was. :) Talk about a convoluted way to tell time, but it did work and was fun. Here is the clock I had, it...

Laser for Wildfire, Forestry, and Arboriculture applications?

Well, chalk one up for honesty :) Nice to see1 You will probably love the sanwu, just be sure you get goggles and be an adult about where you point it and how you use it.

Why are all the good posts so old?

This, I think is also part of the reason people have dropped off. Its the 'More power, who cares about beam specs' in lasers. Chasing a more powerful laser beam. I have seen quite a few come on here, interested in lasers, only to say something like this 'I have just learned about lasers and I...
