    Missing My Wonder....

I'm still in awe that only 5 years ago I was on these forums telling people that blue and green diodes probably wouldn't exist for a long time yet .. and now we have 1W available of each. Only 5 years ago your diode options were IR or 650-660nm. 10mW of blue? That'll be $400 please ..

They're trying to ban FPV flight? That's a bit bullsh!t.

    Quick simple power question.

So you'd probably need to aim for a 2.5kW step up transformer. Warning though, it'll be quite heavy (>10kg)! There is a trick regarding using multiple outlets in the US to get 240V, but I don't live in the US so I'll let someone who knows what they're talking about explain it, if they want :p

    Question about PayPal

Sending a payment as a gift means you have no protection if he scams you, not a good idea.

    Laser Cutting surface?

The beam diverges rapidly once it's through the material, most machines don't need anything under the actual cutting surface at all. On my 50W cutter there is nothing but the bottom of the machine under the cutting surface, and the beam has diverged so much that it can't even melt polystyrene...

Looking to buy a RGB projector

I think for that price range, your 2 best options are something like a RIYA/Etherdream DAC + ILDSOS, or Pangolin Quickshow and the FB3. From memory both will run you about $500, but they're by far better than anything else for the price point. iShow is a heap of shit and you couldn't pay me to...

    Quadcopter Builds

Sorta just have to keep a mental image of which way you've been steering it. It's a bit easier with planes as you can usually see which way they're going, but you don't have the option of hovering if you get in trouble :D Still takes a lot of practice though. I think I have some addiction...

    Quadcopter Builds

Sorry, been eexxttreeeemmmeeelllyyy busy :) As for the motor noise, there's pretty tight clearance between the windings and magnets, maybe just doublecheck something hasn't gotten inside it, blast it out with compressed air? I've signed up and been going out to the local RC club on Sun...

What is the wavelength of pure violet?

Stick a 445nm laser next to a 488/473nm laser and it looks just as violet as 405.

    First laser Volt/Amp question

The X-Drive is a buck driver, in the simplest (and incorrect) terms, it "converts" the excess voltage into the current needed to drive the laser. So by turning up the voltage, the driver is pulling less current. This is how buck drivers work and generate minimal heat vs a linear driver. More...

    Tools for SMD soldering?

Yeah I suck at using tweezers too. The best tools I have for SMD - fingernails :D

7Ah SLA Battery for 100W HID

They will be fine with the startup. If they draw 7A while running, it means you should *in theory* get an hour out of 7Ah SLA. However SLA's capacity drops pretty rapidly so I'd expect maybe 45 mins or so at best from a fresh battery.

Post your accidental BURNING MARKS [picture thread]

Re: Post your BURNING MARKS [picture thread] Nah it's real, from a laser projector. If I can find the thread again I'll post.

    Got my orange out successfully!

I've seen a torus shaped beam on my CO2 laser a few times, I put it down to being overdriven. It's a TEM mode as has been said and can be caused by a few things, maybe try turning down the power slightly?

Laser harp - how to do an open design?

Unfortunately being able to move your hand up and down in the beams to modulate pitch is extremely difficult to do (at least, on more than 1 beam at once), not possible with just photosensors. I'm working on something at the moment that will allow it, but it's not really DIY-able at this stage...

    Quadcopter Builds

The addiction has taken hold, there's no going back for you now :D The props become a bit ridiculous too .. Then the copters start having babies .. :D About 40Ah in the pic. Should my house ever burn down, there's no saving it :p
